The Grand Theft Auto series has been doing incredibly well for Rockstar Games over the past few years, particularly Grand Theft Auto V, which has recently gone on to become the best-selling game of all time. That being said, you’d better get used to that game for a while, because it may be a few years before we see the series surface again.

Michael Pachter, who serves as a gaming and electronics analyst for Wedbush Securities, recently posted his predictions for this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo, and while there was some hopeful information in regards to reveals at the event (like the possibility of Project Scorpio being $399 and a new Metroid game being revealed by Nintendo), he also let some GTA fans down with some surprising news.
He noted that Rockstar Games is a “mess” at the moment, and won’t have anything to reveal at E3, aside from the possibility of new Red Dead Redemption 2 gameplay. But he also noted that we probably won’t see a new Grand Theft Auto game until 2024 at the earliest, as the company is currently planning to release six other games.
That’s a bold statement, as Rockstar has only revealed one title that’s on its agenda right now, and that’s Red Dead 2, which recently got delayed to a spring 2018 release. We have heard rumors that the publisher could be considering bringing back the Bully franchise for another go-around, but, outside of that, we haven’t heard anything about its plans.
On top of that, the pacing between the two most recent Grand Theft Auto games indicates that it’d be too far out to wait over a decade for a follow-up. Grand Theft Auto IV came out in 2008, followed by the first versions of Grand Theft Auto V in 2013 (with Xbox One, PS4 and PC ports released later on). That said, we did wait a few years between San Andreas and Grand Theft Auto IV, but certainly not a decade.
We’ll have to see what Rockstar Games does after Red Dead 2 comes out. For the time being, take the rumor with a grain of salt. You can check out Pachter’s full E3 predictions above.
