A new update will soon be coming to Skyrim: Special Edition, and with it, a fresh challenge should be coming to players that are ready to take it on – Survival Mode!

Being included in the update numbered 1.5, it's being considered the most difficult way to take on the game, with challenges that aren't usually available within the general game, along with more realism to make you work to stay alive.

Here's a rough idea of the changes being made with the mode:

  • Fast Travel is disabled.
  • Traveling in snowy or rainy areas will increase your Cold and Cold decreases your total available health.
  • Warmth: The higher your warmth rating, the more slowly you will feel the effects of cold environments.
  • Taking a swim in an ice-cold river can kill you.
  • You no longer regenerate health.
  • To level up, you must now sleep in a bed.
  • Your carry weight has been significantly reduced.
  • Creatures across the land now carry threatening new diseases, and previous diseases are now even more debilitating.
  • Shrines no longer cure diseases for free; you must now make a gold offering in order to receive the shrine's benefits.

In addition, Bethesda noted that the update would introduce the Creation Club to the game, where certain mods will be available for purchase. This may be a controversial practice for some, but it'll introduce some fresh tweaks that players won't want to miss out on. It is optional though.

Currently, the Survival Mode is in beta testing, and Bethesda hasn't provided a release date for it, only that it's coming sometime next month. But it should get fans excited, especially if they think that Skyrim has been too much of a pushover. This'll definitely change that. On top of that, the mods could be interesting to check out – provided that fans are interested in picking them up.

There's also no word if the update will be included with the forthcoming Nintendo Switch version of Skyrim: Special Edition, but we don't see why it wouldn't be offered via an update. We'll let you know what we find out.

Skyrim: Special Edition is available now for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC, and will arrive for Nintendo Switch on November 17th.
