Many people are a-chatter through the social media circles over the last few days, talking about what they feel “won” this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo – and it’s really hard to tell officially, what with all the surprise announcements we saw, as well as the new hardware that made its debut, like the Xbox One X system.

That said, a company called Brandwatch has managed to break down a number of the social media mentions over the past few days, summing up enough of the statistics to determine who, in fact, “won” E3 as far as social buzz is concerned – and it looks like Microsoft won by a landslide.

Based on the 2.7 million English language mentions of E3 2017 between June 10th and June 13th (that’s not even counting the last two days of the show, mind you), the company noted that Microsoft managed to score a first place shot with 44 percent of all mentions during that part of the conference period, based mostly on its Xbox One X hardware. Following closely in second place was Nintendo with 15 percent, followed by Sony (11 percent), Ubisoft (10 percent), Electronic Arts (10 percent), Bethesda (eight percent) and the PC Gaming Show (two percent).

The company also made note of the top ten mentioned games during the show, and, surprisingly enough, Ubisoft ruled the list with Assassin’s Creed Origins, which got a majority of the vote from fans. Close behind was Nintendo’s Metroid Prime 4, followed by Sony’s Spider-Man, BioWare’s Anthem and the cross-over title Mario & Rabbids: Kingdom Battle. The full top ten list is below:

  1. Assassin’s Creed Origins
  2. Metroid Prime 4
  3. Spider-Man
  4. Anthem
  5. Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle
  6. Super Mario Odyssey
  7. Beyond Good & Evil 2
  8. Dragonball FighterZ
  9. Skyrim (+ Skyrim VR)
  10. Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus

Overall, it was a pretty good year for all companies involved, as the show saw over 68,000 attendees, with millions of mentions across social media. We’ll see what the finalized numbers bring after the next few days.

But, yeah, people really love the return of Assassin’s Creed. And, of course, Metroid.
