Steam’s Next Big RPG Gets Steam Deck Verified Before Release

Two noteworthy RPGs are releasing on Steam over the next week or so. One of these RPGs is not going to be Steam Deck Verified at launch, but the other is. For those unfamiliar with the verbiage, when a Steam Deck game is “Verified,” it means that Valve has tested the PC game for the PC handheld and ensures that not only does it work from start to finish, but it also works well. More than this, and in particular, it works well with the Steam Deck’s built-in display and controls without any user configuration.

The RPG in question is Digimon Story Time Stranger from Media Vision and Bandai Namco. The new Digimon game is set to release on October 2, and while it will cost the full $70 on Steam when it does, those with a Steam Deck can enjoy it from day one, knowing it is optimized for the machine. A few days before it, on September 30, Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles will release, but there is no word of this PC release being Steam Deck Verified.

About the Game

Digimon Story Time Stranger is set to release as the 7th game in the Story sub-series of Digimon. While it is the 7th total in the sub-series, it is actually the first in a while, with the last coming eight years ago in 2017 in the form of Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth โ€“ Hacker’s Memory. In other words, Digimon fans have been waiting for this game for a little bit now, and it looks like the wait is going to pay off. In the pre-release material at least, the new installment appears to be the biggest, most ambitious, and high-quality game in the sub-series so far. To this end, it has drawn interest from even casual Digimon fans.

Like in previous games, players will be embarking on an adventure spanning both the human world and the digital world, collecting, raising, and fighting in turn-based battles with Digimon.

Looking at the release schedule on Steam, this is arguably the next big Steam Deck Verified game coming out. That said, a game being verified on Steam Deck and running excellently on it aren’t always the same thing. Thankfully, the game’s PC requirements aren’t very demanding, so it should have no problem running fairly well on the machine. Joining Digimon Story Time Stranger in October’s Steam Deck Verified games collection is a major upcoming release from Xbox.
