In case you missed it the other day, we reported on the news about a possible new Game of Thrones project from the team at Bethesda, with a retail listing outed at Target indicating that something was in the works.

And, immediately, the Game of Thrones community was abuzz with excitement. After all, Bethesda makes some of the best adventure games on the market, including The Elder Scrolls Online, its Morrowind expansion, and, of course, the legendary Oblivion and Skyrim games, which are still in pretty fair circulation today. So imagine that kind of adventure development, but with the awesome Game of Thrones license and characters.

But, alas, you probably shouldn’t get too crazy about the idea, because it doesn’t look like it’s actually happening. Lee Henderson, a member of the communications team at Target, reached out to ComicBook.com following the rumor, and it doesn’t appear to be anything more than a pipe dream.

When asked about the product, Henderson noted, “This is not a real product โ€“ we’re sorry for any confusion.”

And just like that, we can hear the hopes and dreams of many fans crashing down โ€“ probably in the same respect as having to wait for the final season until possibly 2019. There’s always a chance that Bethesda could introduce something down the road, but, for now, there’s only two official Game of Thrones video games โ€“ one produced by Atlus for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 years ago, and, of course, the story-based Game of Thrones Telltale series. But the good news is that last offering is very good, and features very familiar characters from the show.

Meanwhile, Bethesda is keeping busy on the adventure path, with Skyrim still making the rounds on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC, and the Nintendo Switch version set to arrive later this year. Elder Scrolls Online continues to have plenty of buzz behind it as well, and we shouldn’t forget about the rest of the company’s line-up, including Dishonored: Death of the Outsider, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus and The Evil Within II. Hardly anything to scoff at there.
