Ubisoft’s been hyping Tom Clancy’s The Division for some time since its release, and now it appears to be paying back dividends for the company.

Speaking with Game Reactor, the managing director for development team Massive Entertainment, David Polfeldt, talked about how the game has turned out to be a “massive success.”

“It’s a huge brand, it’s a monster brand. And to be honest, it became way bigger and was more successful than anything we had hoped for. We had very high ambitions but in the end The Division is one of the most successful launches in the entire gaming industry of 2016. And that gives us an incredible platform to look at. What can we do with that? What can we learn from that? How do we bring it to the next level? What do we do that is live and what do we in the shadows before we show it and so on?

“So for us it’s been really an opportunity to stop and look at what do you do when you have a chance like that? It’s not often in the gaming industry that you have an opportunity as a developer to be in charge of a brand that has such a big potential.”

Of course, it’ll probably be a while before we see any sort of follow-up to The Division in terms of a sequel, since Massive is currently busy working on a game based on James Cameron’s Avatar universe. However, we could see more expansions, like The Last Stand, which was introduced earlier this year. We’ll likely know what Ubisoft’s future plans are with the game in just a few weeks, when it hosts its annual pre-E3 press conference.

For the time being, it’s easy to see how The Division has become such a success, with its abundant amount of content and its online-friendly interface. It’s seen a few bumps along the way, but it looks like Ubisoft has smoothed most of them over.

We’ll see what’s next for The Division in just a short amount of time. In the meantime, you can check the game out now for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
