For some time now, Naughty Dog has been telling us that Uncharted: The Lost Legacy is more than just your typical expansion – it’s really a full game, featuring levels that are bigger than anything the series has delivered before. Well, today Naughty Dog backed up their boasts today by releasing first footage of The Lost Legacy‘s gorgeous new semi-open-world area.

The 13-minutes of footage, which you can check out above, sees The Lost Legacy protagonists Nadine Ross and Chloe Frazer exploring the lush Indian Western Ghats mountains. The gameplay is rather similar to the Madagascar section from Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, with Nadine and Chloe making their way around the area in a jeep, stealthily taking out mercenaries, exploring the ruins of an old fortress, and engaging in a bit of gunplay.

The main difference? The Western Ghats look much better than Madagascar. Despite supposedly being a lush tropical environment, Madagascar felt a bit sterile at times, while the Western Ghats feels suitably dense, humid, and alive. It also looks like there’s a little bit less random driving around than in Madagascar, although that may just be because Naughty Dog timed their playthrough smartly.

Uncharted: The Lost Legacy definitely looks like a refinement of things we’ve seen before, rather than a new chapter, but that’s a bad thing. Naughty Dog specifically says they want The Lost Legacy to be a sort of catalog of the series’ best moments

“One of the things we set out to do with this game is make it the best of all the Uncharteds, right? We wanted to bring back all that we love about the Uncharted games. And, look, players have grown and evolved – and so has the technology. Likewise, we have with it. We wanted to get the wonder back – that sense of adventure and being lost and not knowing what’s around every corner.”

Uncharted: The Lost Legacy swings onto PS4 on August 22.
