Ahead of his next game for Playstation 4 on developed by Insomniac Games, the YouTube archivist known as CusSan compiled a video collection of every Spider-Man game, showcasing how far games have come over the last three-and-a-half decades. Check it out above!
It’s interesting to see the evolution of the Frogger-like platforming adventure on the Atari to the mid-’90s beat ’em up genre of Maximum Carnage, to the classic open-world adventure of Spider-Man 2 that has had such an impact on the brand to this day.
While his influence might not be that obvious, and Spidey might not be as beloved a mascot as Sonic the Hedgehog, Mario, or even Crash Bandicoot, but Spider-Man has long had a presence throughout the history of the medium. And his games have provided some memorable experiences for gamers.
It all builds up to show some of the footage from next year’s Spider-Man game, which wowed audiences during the Playstation presentation at E3. We’re excited to learn more about this game, but the gameplay looked epic.
Insomniac has provided some wonderful experiences over the last few years with the Ratchet and Clank series, Resistance, and Sunset Overdrive.
It will be nice to see them get their hands on a tried-and-true property like Spider-Man, a character who provides for many fun gameplay mechanics and open-world exploration.
The PS4 Spider-Man game is set to hit sometime in 2018, but no release date has been announced yet.
