Injustice 2 has had a pretty great run in its near first full month on the market. It’s delivered a sensational fighting experience that could easily be NetherRealm Studios’ best to date, with a cast of characters that are actually fun to play. Not only that, but it looks superb, with fantastic character models and backdrops that really make you feel like you’re fighting within the DC Comics universe.

And yet, NetherRealm isn’t done with the game yet. Its first DLC fighter, Red Hood, will be coming this Tuesday, and Starfire and Sub-Zero will join the party soon thereafter. Following that, we’ll see six more fighters revealed for the game.
So what kind of surprises are still to come with Injustice 2? After all, the game’s popularity is still surging, and there are still plenty of shows over the next few months where it could get some extra exposure, especially San Diego Comic-Con.
We’ve got a few guesses, so here’s what we believe may be coming down the line for Injustice 2. Again, these are guesses, so they’re not confirmed by any means. But considering the power of Warner Bros. and DC Comics, they could very well happen.
Superstar Crossovers
We’ve seen it in the past, with a Stephen Amell skin applied to Green Arrow in the original Injustice: Gods Among Us, so don’t be surprised when, either at E3 or the San Diego Comic-Con, WB Games announces a new set of premium skins for fighters in Injustice 2, based on stars that play them in the TV shows and movies. For instance, a Gal Gadot skin for Wonder Woman would be absolutely killer; and, yes, we want a Melissa Benoist Supergirl just as badly as you, as great as the current in-game model looks. And with Justice League coming later this year to theaters, it’s very likely we’ll get a skin set for that as well.
Speaking of whichโฆ
More Unlockable Gear That Ties In With DC Products
Fans have been going nuts unlocking Wonder Woman’s movie gear in Injustice 2, even going as far as to marathoning match-ups just to make sure they could acquire it. WB and NetherRealm could be onto quite the business model here, so if we don’t end up getting the premium character skins, we could very well see the next best thing โ armor and gear sets that tie in with certain shows, like Legends of Tomorrow and the forthcoming Justice League. It’s another great promotional move that will keep players going at it in battle, until they have everything they wantโฆand then they’ll go digging around for the other stuff.
New Tournament Modes
Injustice 2‘s multiplayer is doing very well on the casual front, but it won’t be long before the sequel starts making waves in the esports world โ and that means tournaments. We’ll likely see the game at EVO 2017 to some extent, as well as other events in the months ahead. With that, NetherRealm Studios could be looking at introducing tournament-based modes to the game, where rules can be changed up a little bit and certain settings could be put in place. It’s hard to say what really needs to be changed from the general multiplayer, but the esports experts are sure to come up with something that’ll click.
Ideal Crossovers
We talked about the additional characters that were hinted at in Injustice 2 earlier this week, when a screenshot showed off silhouettes. One of them indicates that we’ll get either Spawn or Azrael in the game. Azrael would be a great choice, of course, but including Spawn would be a massive crossover for the game, and present even more possibilities of comic book legends down the road. Plus, considering how bad-ass Spawn was when he was kicking people around in Soul Calibur II, we could only imagine what his abilities would be like in Injustice 2. Maybe he could throw the Violator in there for his Superโฆ
Oh, and we totally want the Watchmen, too. Just saying.
Injustice 2 XL
This may be a long shot, but it would make sense for the business model, since it’ll probably be a few years before Injustice 3 makes its way to store shelves. A while back, NetherRealm Studios expanded its Mortal Kombat X with a new XL add-on that brought in some new fighters, including the Alien from the Alien sagaโฆso why can’t it do the same with Injustice? After the initial run of DLC fighters is over for this year, don’t be surprised if we see this expansion roll around for 2018. After all, the team said it would make Injustice its business model for a while, and seeing new fighters come into the fold would hit the spot. The DC Comics universe โ and even crossovers from Mortal Kombat โ can definitely keep us busy for a long time.
With that, maybe NetherRealm could release a PC version of Injustice 2 XL, so that audience could enjoy it as well. As long as it works, of courseโฆwe don’t need another Batman: Arkham Knight on our handsโฆ
Injustice 2 is available now on Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
