In addition to some great new footage and some truly BIG cameo reveals (read more about both, below) there was also a major casting announcement: Hidden Figures and Empire star Taraji P. Henson has joined the cast of Wreck-It Ralph 2!

Comicbook.com’s Brandon Davis was in attendance at D23 and revealed more details about Wreck-It Ralph 2 – including Henson’s new character, “Yesss” (sp):

As Ralph and Penelope explore this massive universe, they’re going to meet several new characters, including one who appears to be an expert of this massive universe,” co-director PhilJohnston said.

The character is Yesss and she is dressed in blue, extravagantly. She is an algorithm for the site BuzzAholic.

“Because she’s always up on the latest trend, she has the ability to shift he hair and outfits.” Playing Yesss will be Taraji P. Henson.

Yesss talks to Ralph and Penelope and asks if they are enjoying the Internet. He says, “Yes,” and she thinks he is saying her name. Once that is cleared up, Ralph reveals he wants to go viral. Yesss discusses how to pull it off, and it’s all about like-minded humans and appealing to them.”

It sounds like Henson will be doing a send up of her characters on Fox’s super popular (and soapy) TV series, Empire, where she plays Cookie Lyon, the matriarch of the infamous Lyon family and a top executive of the family’s record empire. The role won Henson a Golden Globe in 2016.

The first Wreck-It Ralph was a film that did send ups of many iconic things in the video gaming world; Wreck-It Ralph 2 will be expanding its focus to many other tangential things in pop-culture – and Empire would definitely qualify as that. Henson is one of the best actresses out there, and it sounds like she (and the viewers) will have plenty of fun skewering modern Internet “culture” sites like Buzzfeed.
