Xbox Store Leaks New Mortal Kombat Surprise

The Xbox Store has seemingly leaked a new Mortal Kombat surprise involving Xbox Game Pass. Right now, the future of the series is a bit unclear. While Mortal Kombat 1, the latest installment in the series, has done well, it didn’t garner the same reception as its predecessor, Mortal Kombat 11, nor is it selling as well. Meanwhile, it looks like NetherRealm Studios is working on Injustice 3 and may even reveal it soon. If this is the case, then Mortal Kombat 1 is going to be the Mortal Kombat game for the next few years, which means NRS and WB Games will need to find new ways to bring in new players.

That said, it looks like NRS and WB Games are preparing to add Mortal Kombat 1 to Xbox Game Pass. Of course, not only does Microsoft pay it to do this, but this is a good way to bring in new players, even if it is only temporary. There is no official announcement as of right now, but we have as close to an official announcement as you are going to get.

Coming Soon

More specifically, Mortal Kombat 1 can be seen in an advertisement banner for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate on the Microsoft Store. Naturally, every other game featured in the banner is on Xbox Game Pass, but not Mortal Kombat 1. Meanwhile, this exact type of leak has been a source of several unannounced Xbox Game Pass leaks over the year, so there is also precedent backing up the leak.

Not only does this seemingly leak that Mortal Kombat 1 is coming to Xbox Game Pass, but seemingly coming very soon. And while we know some of the games coming to Xbox Game Pass in October, the full lineup has not been announced, leaving the door open for Mortal Kombat 1 to be part of the Xbox Game Pass October lineup. Ahead of this, be sure to check out our official review of the fighting game, which is available on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.

At the moment of publishing, none of the implicated parties — NetherRealm Studios, WB Games, and Xbox — have not commented on this new potential leak. If this changes, we will update the story accordingly.

All of that said, and as always, feel free to leave a comment letting us know what you think, or join the conversation over on the ComicBook Forum.
