Doomed: The Untold Story of Roger Corman’s Fantastic Four — is doing Roger Corman’s actual Fantastic Four movie one better and getting a U.S. release.

While Fantastic Four has been widely available via bootlegs sold at comic and science-fiction conventions for years, the film itself never secured an official release in North America, and most people think it was never really intended to. Doomed, though, will be distributed in the US and Canada by Uncork’d Entertainment.

“The average moviegoer doesn’t know that, ten years before releasing Tim Story’s version, Roger Corman was asked to produce a Fantastic Four movie,” said Uncork’d Entertainment President Keith Leopard, via Bleeding Cool. “Unbeknownst to cast and crew, the film was never going to be released though – and for a variety of reasons. Doomed! is such a compelling documentary – and not just for comic book movies but anyone intrigued by the ins and outs of Hollywood and business. In short, it’s a Fantastic movie.”

(See what he did there?)

The film, made in 1994, was created in order to maintain the rights, which lapse if a movie doesn’t go into active production every so many years. Last year, when Josh Trank’s disastrous Fantastic Four reboot was released, it was widely speculated that the studio knew the movie would bomb, but did not have time to make another one before the rights would lapse without a release.

Doomed!: The Untold Story of Roger Corman’s The Fantastic Four will be released digitally on October 11 and then on DVD in December.
