Robert Downey Jr. is basically the Godfather of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actor portrayed Tony Stark in 2008's Iron Man which kickstarted the largest cinematic franchise today.
Since Iron Man, Downey Jr. has appeared in a pair of sequels, a pair of Avengers films, brawled with his fellow Avengers in Captain America: Civil War, and will be playing a considerable role in Spider-Man: Homecoming when it hits theaters next month. 10 years later, the actor is showing no signs of slowing down with Marvel Studios projects, as he has at least one appearance slated for the two years following Spider-Man, as well.
During a press conference at a Spider-Man: Homecoming event, Downey Jr. explained why he keeps coming back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
"What happens to me is that things are presented to me that are really well thought out by folks that have been doing this correctly for a really long time, and I go like, ‘Check,'" Downey Jr. said.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to add impressive cast and crew members to its productions, with all of their films going on to become blockbusters, often receiving praise from fans and critics alike. As Homecoming director Jon Watts puts it, being a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in interesting as a whole.
"One of the best parts of the job, when I first got it, was just going back and watching all the Marvel movies again," Watts told ComicBook.com in an exclusive interview. "To just think about the ground level of the universe in the context of all these other movies. That's really a fun exercise."
