New rumors have begin cropping up about the villains featured in Spider-Man spinoff Silver and Black, including one of the Wallcrawlers’ original foes from the comics.

Jeff Sneider of the Tracking Board recently took to social media where he revealed the Chameleon is being considered for the film about the Black Cat and Silver Sable. He also states he’s heard rumblings about Tombstone’s and Tarantula’s involvement as well.

While Spider-Man has a robust rogues gallery, Chameleon is among the most popular who have yet to appear on screen. And his history dates back over 50 years ago to Amazing Spider-Man #1.

The shape-shifting villain has maintained a consistent appearance in the Spider-Man comics since that time and he would make a formidable foe in Silver and Black.

The other villains being considered, Tombstone and Tarantula, are slightly more obscure but still well known to hardcore Spidey fans.

Tombstone is known as a super gangster in the Marvel Universe. With super strength and quick reflexes, he worked his way up from being an enforcer and a hitman to eventually becoming an boss.

A few different characters have taken on the guise of Tarantula, the most prominent being Anton Rodriguez. That character was an enforcer for the fictional country of Delvadia; he’s almost like an international, third-world country’s answer to Captain America. Though he died in the ’80s, he was recently revived in the “Dead No More” storyline.

With these characters’ involved, it sounds like Silver and Black is going to dwelling in the seedy underbelly of the Spider-Man universe, which makes sense with the focus being on Black Cat (a thief) and Silver Sable (a mercenary).

As more news starts to develop on the upcoming film to be directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood, hopefully we get to learn more about who will be cast.

Silver and Black is scheduled to hit theaters February 8, 2019.
