20th Century Fox is hoping the third time is the charm for the Fantastic Four. After two failed film franchises, the studio is reportedly developing another superhero outing for the famous family, and the kid-friendly romp might be based on a rather unexpected children’s book.

Bleeding Cool posted an article today that suggests the new Fantastic Four reboot is based on an unpublished Mark Millar series. The famed comic creator announced he was working on a children’s series titled Kindergarten Heroes back in February 2012, but it never made it to print. Millar was able to option Kindergarten Heroes to Fox in 2013, and sources are now saying the series is being tailored for the Fantastic Four.
Kindergarten Heroes had its own screenplay penned some time ago by Carter Blanchard, so there is no telling how its narrative will tie into the Fantastic Four. Seth Grahame-Smith has been tied to the reboot as a screenwriter, so elements of Kindergarten Heroes‘ script may still be salvaged.
Fox has not released any official details about its plans for a third Fantastic Four reboot, but reports about the film continue to persist. Bleeding Cool broke news about the project earlier this year and revealed its kid-centric narrative. Rather than focusing on the Fantastic Four team, the reboot is said to star Franklin and Valeria Richards as leads. Heroes like The Thing and the Human Torch will be supporting characters as the children of Mr. Fantastic and the Invisible Woman undergo an adventure of their own.
Details about the reboot are scarce, but fans do know more about the Fantastic Four film than another of Fox’s developing films. Noah Hawley made a stunning announcement at San Diego Comic-Con 2017 about his involvement with Fox’s cinematic division. The Legion showrunner told fans he’s currently working on a Doctor Doom film, but there has been no follow-up on the announcement since.
