Marvel’s The Punisher is coming to Netflix – we just don’t know when. For whatever reason, Marvel and Netflix have decided to market The Punisher with a mystery release date of “sometime in fall 2017,” and recent promos have all centered on the idea of teasing the release date without ever really revealing it.

Case in point: a new Punisher motion poster has been released, and it once again teases a release date for the Netflix series, but never reveals more than the fact that it will be coming in 2017.

Take another look below, and see if you can’t discover any secret info “in between the lines.”

So again, nothing big revealed… or was there?

Release Date Sighting?

As you can see in the image above (or in a closer look HERE), there is one moment in the motion poster where we can see the number “701” distinctly flashed across the screen; that could be a mirror flip of 107, or “10/7” meaning October 7th.ย

Why would we jump to the conclusion that a random backwards number equates to a premiere date for the Punisher? Because of what’s going to occur on the date “10/7″…

Secret Premiere NYCC

On Saturday, October 7th at 6pm EST, Marvel TV will hold its Punisherย panel at New York Comic-Con.ย

While the panel will only run from 5:15 – 6:15pm, there’s speculation that Marvel TV will hold a surprise screening ofย The Puinsher‘s first episode immediately afterward – and then top that surprise by announcing to fans that they can go out and watch the entire series that very same night.ย

Marvel TV has gotten into some pretty ambitious launch stunts this fall, asย Inhumansย is set to premiere tonight (at the time of writing this) after spending weeks in movie theaters as an exclusive IMAXย feature. However, IMAXย launch didn’t go so well forย Inhumans; conversely, using NYCCย fandomย as the launchpad for The Punisherย would make a massive wave and create immediate buzz for the series.

Surprise digital releases have certainly been working for music industry in the last few years, so maybe Marvel TV will be the first to really capitalize on it in this lane of the industry.ย

Keep an eye out next week as Comicbook.com heads into NYCCย to bring you all of the coverage from the convention – including (hopefully) a full look at theย Punisherย Netflixย series.ย
