Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2: De-Aged [SPOILER] Was Mostly Makeup Not CGI

Guardians fo the Galaxy Vol. 2 had a lot of fun surprise reveals and Easter eggs for Marvel fans to uncover - starting from the very first scene of the film.
That opening scene was a flashback to the days when Peter Quill's mother, Meredith, was living carefree and happy with the love of her life, Ego. For the scene, Ego actor Kurt Russell had to appear a lot younger than his current age of sixty-six - a feat that director James Gunn and his technical team pulled off seamlessly.
However, as it turns out, making Kurt Russell look youthful and vibrant again doesn't take as much effort as one might think.
In a broadcast by Adam Kruger of Anchor.fm, we learned that Young Ego was created by 90% makeup work, and only 10% CGI work. That's a far cry from other flashback moments in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (see: Michael Douglas in Ant-Man; Young Tony Stark in Captain: Civil War) which have clearly used extensive CGI work to achieve their de-aged effect.
Admittedly, Kurt Russell had an advantage in the fact that he's had an expert makeup artist named Dennis Ledger working with him on nearly thirty films, ever since Tango and Cash in 1989. Now we know why the acclaimed actor has kept his makeup guy around so long: anyone who can make you look thirty years younger without using a computer is someone worth keeping close, indeed.
