Paxton died on Saturday due to complications from surgery. He played John Garrett in the first season of Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD. Garrett was the superior officer to Agent Grant Ward (Brett Dalton).
Agents Of SHIELD Cast And Crew Remember Bill Paxton
Garrett and Ward were both revealed to be Hydra moles within SHIELD, and Garrett was eventually revealed as the season’s mysterious main villain, the Clairvoyant.
Garrett was killed in the marvel’s Agents of SHIELD finale. However, Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD Season 4 has introduced an alternate reality known as the Framework, constructed through a combination of technology and arcane power.
Some characters who died in the real world are alive in the Framework and vice versa. For example, Agent Jemma Simmons hacked her way into the Framework only to find that her Framework avatar was dead and buried. On the flip side, Dalton will reprise his role as Ward, who died in Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD‘s third season, within the Framework for the final act of Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD Season 4.
The nature of the Framework led some fans to speculate that Paxton could reprise his role as Garrett alongside Dalton’s Ward. It appears that was never in the cards.
On Sunday, Marvel released a statement on Paxton’s death: “Marvel is deeply saddened by the loss of Bill Paxton; his contributions to the Marvel Universe will be remembered fondly.”
Several other members of the Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD cast and crew also paid tribute to Paxton, including Dalton, Clark Gregg, Ming-Na Wen, Elizabeth Henstridge, Maurissa Tancharoen, and Bear McCreary.
