Agents of SHIELD‘s fourth season is drawing to a close, but the stars who play FitzSimmons are still considering the couple’s future. Earlier in the season, a life model decoy of Fitz brought up the idea of he and Simmons getting married. Now that Fitz is free of the Framework, could bring the same subject up?

Elizabeth Henstridge, who plays Simmons, says they’ll likely be too busy dealing with recent traumas.
“They’re just trying to get through whether they can even just be together at this point rather than get married,” Henstridge tells Entertainment Weekly. “Fitz is potentially going to be in a bit of a tailspin because of what has happened. It doesn’t mean that they’re not going to have challenges on the other side. When they left the Framework, the base got blown up, everything was chaotic, we’re now coming back into that world. So I think marriage for them is very far off.”
Still, Henstridge and co-star Iain De Caestecker, who plays Fitz, think that the possibility of a FitzSimmons wedding is as good of a reason as any to keep Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD going into its fifth season and beyond.
“You can always see more. Even when the show ultimately does end, there’s always still stories to be told,” De Caestecker says.
“Yeah, we haven’t had our wedding scene, we’ve not had a birth scene,” Henstridge adds. “Oh, yeah. You know, there’s just a lot that can happen. Maybe that’s what season 5 is, just like the domestic bliss.”
“I’d love to see a kid in the show. That’d be great, wouldn’t it?” says De Caestecker. “Like you doing all your lab stuff and whipping up kids.”
Recent rumors suggest that Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD has been given a season five renewal at ABC, but there has been no official word as of yet.
In tonight’s episode of Agents of SHIELD, “The Return,” Coulson and the team’s victory in the Framework is short-lived, as an even deadlier enemy looms against them all.
Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” returns with a vengeance for the fourth exciting season in an all new time period, Tuesday at 10:00 p.m. ET. In the aftermath of their journey to another planet, Director Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) and the rest of the team were driven more than ever to put an end to the Hydra organization. Little did they know that they were up against the deadliest threat they’ve ever faced โ an extremely powerful Inhuman, Hive, who was transported back from Maveth in the body of their worst enemy, Grant Ward. The team was able to thwart and kill Hive and take down Hydra, but they are all still mourning the death of fellow agent and Inhuman, Lincoln Campbell.
