Fans are less than ten months away from the release of Avengers: Infinity War, but Marvel Studios is already boarding passengers for its hype train. The film is expected to bring the Marvel Cinematic Universe to a climax ahead of its tenth anniversary. Just recently, a new set photo from the feature dropped over on Twitter.
A couple of photos from a toned-down Avengers shoot hit the Internet, and fans are buzzing about the update. The pictures show Spider-Man suited up in his iconic red-and-blue suit alongside Doctor Strange’s sentient cloak. A crew member can be seen standing off to the side filming the pair, and New York City’s bumper traffic can be seen passing by the scene.

The pictures do not seem to have been taken as a full shoot, so it is highly unlikely Tom Holland took part of the filming; there is not nearly enough security present to justify the actor’s presence on the busy street. Based on the image’s scaled-down size, the pictures are likely depicting a reference shots taken for Marvel Studio’s CGI artist to use in post-production.
These photos aren’t the first indicators fans have been given about Doctor Strange and Spider-Man‘s big screen team up. In fact, they aren’t even the first or second.
The New Superhero Bros?
Over the summer, Tom Holland and Benedict Cumberbatchย promised fans they can look forward to their character’s pairing up in Avengers: Infinity War. The duo stoppedย by Good Morning America in July to talk about their Marvel tenures, and Holland said the men are friends in real life as well on on-screen.
However, it was co-director Joe Russo who teased the pair’s cinematic partnership. The director said the men’s chemistry was so good that he had to bring it to the big screen.
“They both have a proximity to each other, if that’s a hint that I can give.” Russo explained. “Anybody who’s a Marvel fan would know that they both reside in the same city, and I think Tom and Benedict have a really wonderful chemistry and we wanted to exploit that.”
Not Our First Rodeo
Aside from crew anecdotes, fans have also been given alleged proof of the pair’s team up in the third Avengers movie. The Internet was buzzing earlier this summer when a reportedly leaked photo of a post-production still from the blockbuster went public. The raw CGI mock-up showed Doctor Strange teaming up with Spider-Man in what looked to be a climactic battle sequence.
While the image was blurry, fans could see Spider-Man swinging forward in his revamped costume which Tony Stark made him at the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming. Doctor Strange is then shown flying up to the Queens hero, telling him to protect the others as they were not dead yet.
Of course, Marvel Studios has refrained from acknowledging the supposed leak, but the team up does lend credence to Russo’s recent tease. The New York City heroes may just find themselves tag-teaming when Thanos makes his catastrophic plans for the universe known. So, if you thought Peter Parker’s fanboy moment over Captain America was rich, just wait until he meets the magic Doctor Strange.
