Captain America: Civil War just officially hits theaters in North America today, but fans - and the directors of the film the Russo brothers - are already looking into the future. With two Avengers movies on their docket next, currently tentatively titled Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 and Part 2 (those titles will change before the films are released), the Russos now have to think about how they'll culminate the entire run of the Marvel Cinematic Universe so far into an epic production.

Well, that epic production will start principal photography November of this year, they told Deadline.

"We already started them, a couple months ago. We had to," Joe Russo said of pre-production on the films. With an epic structure and two movies that have to both interconnect and also weave in and out of the other MCU films in the interim, that's no surprise. "We start shooting in November, two movies back to back. So we need two scripts ASAP, and we probably started working on them six months ago."

Anthony Russo said that when they were looking at the plan for Infinity War and meeting Thanos, "the greatest threat that the universe has ever seen," they looked for a fun way to "set the stage."

"This was part of the reason we embraced Civil War. Is like, yeah, well, let's shatter The Avengers before we get there. And make it fun to see if and how they come back," Anthony said.

That all meant, though, they were splitting their days - half with writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely on Infinity War, and half in the editing room finishing Civil War for several months. The Russos also confirmed that both Infinity War films will be shot back-to-back so they can build a stronger rapport with crew and cast alike.
