It sounds like Black Panther‘s onscreen foe will have some pretty clear motivations.

In a recent interview with IGN, Andy Serkis previewed what to expect from his Black Panther villain, weapons dealer Ulysses Klaue. As he explained, the film will see Klawe attempting to bring down the nation of Wakanda, which keeps its technological advancements hidden from the rest of the world.

“[He] wants to expose what he thinks is the hypocrisy of Wakanda.” Serkis revealed. “That’s really what drives him.”

But his motivations won’t all be from a larger level, as Black Panther will detail his firsthand vendetta against T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman).

“[He’s] furious about what’s happened [in Black Panther].” Serkis explained. “So it is personal with T’Challa.”

But could there be something more to Klaue’s mission? Serkis hinted that there might be, pointing out his charater’s “addiction to vibranium” with a laugh.

This isn’t the first time that Serkis has hinted at Klaue’s agenda, previously detailing it in an interview with ComicBook.com.

“He is the only person who has been into Wakanda and seen the wealth that it has and he wants to expose that,” Serkis told ComicBook.com back in July. “He believes them to be a hypocritical country. They’re playing this kind of ‘we’re a third world country’ card and he knows what’s underlying that so he’s trying to expose that.”

He also told us that Klaue is not to be underestimated, after previously being defeated by Ultron, Quicksilver, and Scarlet Witch in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

“He is the bringer-down of governments,” Serkis added. “He collaborates. He’s an arms dealer. He knows how to play people.”

Fans will get to see Klaue’s agenda unfold when Black Panther opens in theaters on February 16, 2018.
