James Mangold and Hugh Jackman have come up with quite the ending to Wolverine's film saga with Logan, and there are more than a few fans who see the film as the perfect coda to Jackman's perfect portrayal of the role.
That includes artist BossLogic, who recently released his own tribute to the film as well as to Hugh Jackman's 17 years in the part. The image shows Logan's bloodied hand with his trademark claws laying splintered on the ground beside him. You can see X-23's shoes slightly out of frame, and her backpack and sunglasses can be seen as well. He tweeted the picture with the caption "Thank you for the #17Years @RealHughJackman @mang0ld @WolverineMovie @20thcenturyfox".
You can view the new image in the gallery.
While the film does bring Wolverine's story to a conclusion (which currently holds an 88.59 on ComicBook.com's composite rankings), Mangold did leave some wiggle room for future directors and FOX in case they want to explore the timeline. He recently told Empire "I gave them many escape valves. We take place in 2029, and X-Men [Days of Future Past] ends in 2024," Mangold said. "There's five blank years there that are wide open to seeing how things got from here to there. Or else you could do what I would advocate, which is imagine a different world and create a new movie, and you don't need the permission of the other movies."
Logan takes place in the year 2024, where mutant births have become extremely rare. The defenders of mutant kind, the X-Men, are long gone, and the only remains of them are an old and struggling Charles Xavier and a weary Logan. Logan's vaunted healing factor has slowed, and at times doesn't seem to work at all. When a young mutant needs his help, Logan has to unsheathe his claws once more. His job isn't over yet.
Logan stars Hugh Jackman (Logan), Boyd Holbrook (Donald Pierce), Patrick Stewart (Charles Xavier), Dafne Keen (Laura Kinney/X-23), Doris Morgado (Maria), Stephen Merchant (Caliban), Elizabeth Rodriguez (Gabriela), and Richard E. Grant (Dr. Zander Rice). James Mangold is directing and helped on the screenplay along with Scott Frank and Michael Green.
Logan is now playing in theaters.
