Captain America: Civil War was one of the biggest and best Marvel Cinematic Universe to be released, and now you can get an extended look at how the impressive visual effects for the film were created, thanks to the new video above!
Videos by ComicBook.com
The video (from Gradient Filming) show in layered steps how real-world footage was augmented with computer effects to create the impressive superhero action we saw in the finished film. While the stuntwork is impressive on its own, what will truly intrigue both Marvel fans and movie fans in general is what are added visual effects, and what are actual props and/or locations.
The two most impressive sequences are the opening scene in Lagos, where Cap’s Avengers squad takes on Crossbones, and the famous airport sequence, where both Cap and Iron Man’s Avengers factions face off.
After you watch the video above, you can check out some additional behind-the-scenes details of Captain America: Civil War below – including where we’ll find Cap heading into Avengers: Infinity War.
The Real Zemo
Captain America: Civil Warย mastermind “Zemo” is one of the most nefarious villains in theย MCU, and he was depicted as being very big departure from from a lot of the cartoonishlyย evil villains we find in comic book movies.ย
Zemoย (played by actor Danielย Brรผhl) was also a very big departure from his comic book counterpart in terms of looks – but thatย almost wasn’t the case.ย
As you can see in theย Captain America: Civil Warย concept art above,ย Zemo almost had his trademark purple mask in the film – but the filmmakers reportedly couldn’t find a a suitable storyline for why Zemo would wear it.
“Underoos!”
Spider-Man was introduced to the MCUย withย one word, “Underoos!” The only problem is that Underoos are a relatively US-based brand, so the term needed to be changed for other international markets where CA:CWย would be shown.
Below isย a list of all the different Spider-Man introduction phrases used around the world,ย and the results are fantastic:
- English: “Underoos”= Underoos

- Italian: “Bimbo Ragno” = Spider-Baby
- Latin America: “Oye Nino” = Hey Kid
- Polish: “Siusiumajtek” = Bed wetter
- Russian: “ะฟะฐััะพะบ (paoochok)” = Little Spider
- Brazillian: “Pirralho” = Brat
- Turkish: “Pijamalฤฑ รocuk” = Kid with the Pyjamas
- German: “jetzt Kleiner” = Now little guy
- Hindi: “Chhote Ustad” = Little master
- Swedish: “pyjamas pojken” = Pyjama boy
- Hungarian: “Rugdalรณzรณs” = Onesie
- Korean: “JolJori” = Skin-tight leotards
