The report also states that Stranger Things star David Harbour is still on the shortlist of actors being considered for the role. However, Shannon tops that list by a significant measure.

Cable will be introduced in Deadpool 2 alongside fellow 1990s mutant Domino, played by Atlanta‘s Zazie Beetz.

In the Marvel Comics Universe, Cable is Nathan Christopher Summers, the son of Cyclops. As an infant, Nathan was infected with a technoorganic virus and so Cyclops allowed him to be taken into the future where they could control the infection. In the future, Cable was trained by Clan Askani to fight the mutant dictator Apocalypse.

Cable later returned to the present day, though by then he was a grizzled soldier older than his own father. His primary goal was to kill Apocalypse before he could rise to power. In the meantime, Cable worked as a mercenary alongside Domino, founded X-Force, and later joined the X-Men.

in 2004, Marvel launched Cable and Deadpool, which saw the stoic soldier teamed up with the Merc with a Mouth for buddy cup style adventures. The comic ran for 50 issues and the team-up remains a fan favorite pairing.
