When it comes to superhero films these days, crossovers are the name of the game. Fans want to see their favorite characters teaming up with other vigilantes or masked crusaders to take down baddies. In the last few months, the Internet has been buzzing with fans who want nothing more than to see Deadpool kick butt and eat chimichangas with Wolverine – but that pairing seems like it will never happen.

After all, Hugh Jackman did hang up his claws as Wolverine this month when Logan debuted. The actor exited the X-Men film franchise after playing the surly mutant for more than a decade. When asked if he’d return for a cameo in Deadpool 2, Jackman has seemed insistent that he’s ready to let the role go and allow Ryan Reynolds to stay directly in the spotlight.
However, the screenwriters for Deadpool 2 may have other ideas now. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick were asked about Wolverine’s much-wanted cameo. The site suggested Jackman do a cameo just as himself, and Reese seemed down for the idea.
“Oh my gosh, that’s one we haven’t heard. That’s not a bad idea,” Reese admitted.
“I like that. Deadpool lives in a world where Hugh Jackman is out there. He’s got the People’s Sexiest Man Alive cover that he staples to his forehead in the first movie, so maybe he could meet Hugh as Hugh. That would be really funny.”
The Deadpool sequel is currently in pre-production. Reynolds will return with writer Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese. David Leitch will direct. The film will introduce Deadpool’s time-traveling mutant partner, Cable, as well as X-Force member Domino. Members of the original film’s supporting cast are also expected to return.
Deadpool stars Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, Ed Skrein, T.J. Miller, Gina Carano, Leslie Uggams, Brianna Hildebrand, and Stefan Kapiฤiฤ.
