Adam Warlock is a name that’s been a staple in the Marvel Universe for quite some time. While not being a prominent player in said universe for the past years, his legacy in the world of comics is a significant one. Long linked with the Mad Titan, Thanos, Warlock has yet to make his appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe proper, but is his introduction going to happen sooner than we think? Comicbook.com fan, Fan of Warlock, thinks that Adam’s debut will most likely happen in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 2 in 2017. Let’s look at the current facts!

Warlock was originally created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, hitting the pages of Fantastic Four and referred to as “Him” back in the 1960s. His backstory is quite strange in that he was created by scientists as a “perfect” human being, exemplifying the ultimate traits we could have as a species (why this made him gold is anyone’s guess!) Following his confrontation with the Fantastic Four, he traveled into outer space and took the name of Adam Warlock. Adam was instrumental, and one of the biggest parts in fact, of the storyline “The Infinity Gauntlet” of which the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War movies are loosely based on. To not have Warlock be a part of these would be quite the swerve and it seems rest assured he’ll make an appearance in some form or fashion.

With Guardians of the Galaxy, you have the perfect landing zone for the character and there’s one big hint that says Adam is on the way in the sequel. In the first movie, in the Collector’s headquarters, you can clearly see a large cocoon which fans thought was the one that Adam Warlock usually uses to essentially “resurrect” himself and gain a new body every once in a while throughout his history. Fans thought this was a great easter egg but, James Gunn came out to debunk.

A big rumor that has been circulating recently is that the villain of Guardians Volume 2 is “Her”. Her is Adam’s counterpart, made in conjunction with his origin as the perfect example of humanity. The two had something of a falling out, but you can’t have Her without Him so if the rumors were true, this would be another big hint that Warlock is going to appear in the MCU. Warlock’s entire persona is one that leads him to be based in the cosmos, so rather than appearing in say Spider-Man or Doctor Strange, Guardians would definitely be the place to familiarize audiences with him before he makes his splash in Infinity War, if he’s being used accordingly.

It’ll be interesting to see who they eventually cast to play Warlock and if they keep his appearance similar to that of the comics, gold skin and all. He would offer a new perspective to the Marvel Universe and make a welcome addition to the Guardians’ roster as well.
