Just like the first movie in the Marvel Studios franchise, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was loaded with cameos and references to some deep cuts in the cosmic lore. As usual, there was one specific name drop at the end of the new movie that had Marvel superfans freaking out and the casual fans checking Wikipedia.

SPOILERS, just in cast the headline wasn’t enough of a warning…

Just like Thanos appearing at the end of the Avengers, the character Ayesha caused a slight frenzy when she said the words “We’ll call him Adam.”

Ever since the movie premiered, fans wondered if Adam Warlock would make his debut in Avengers: Infinity War so he could aid the Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in their quest against the Mad Titan.

Unfortunately, fans will likely have to wait until Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 to get their first glimpse of Adam Warlock in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, according to president Kevin Feige. While speaking with SlashFilm regarding the character’s inclusion in the next big Marvel team-up movie, Feige simply shot the chance down.

“Adam is not in Infinity War,” Feige said. “That is not a tag for Infinity War.”

The Marvel Studios boss added that James Gunn has plans for the character, going back to the first Guardians Of The Galaxy.

“In that case in particular, James has ideas. And had played with incarnations of Adam Warlock in earlier drafts of other Guardians films. So he’s always been top of mind for the Guardians franchise. And if he appears anywhere in the future, it’ll be with Guardians.”

For those who don’t know, in the comic books Ayesha’s brother is named Adam Warlock, one of the protagonists of the Infinity Gauntlet comic book and the character who ultimately stops Thanos in that storyline.

So it looks like we won’t get to see Thanos and Adam Warlock mixing it up and punching each other’s hearts out anytime soon, despite how integral they are to each other in Jim Starlin’s cosmic epics.

Maybe there will be some plans for the character in the future after James Gunn and the Russo Brothers tell their respective stories with their superteams, but at this point, it’s not going to happen.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is in theaters now.
