Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 Director On Possibility Of A Director’s Cut

When it comes to superheroes, fans cannot get enough. Whenever a new comic book film makes it way into theaters, netizens will inevitably take to the Internet and ask one simple question: when is the director’s cut coming out? For some features, an extended home release of the film will drop as seen with flicks like Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad. However, if you were gearing up your queries for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, you can stop drafting your proposal now.

After all, James Gunn did just confirm the theatrical cut of the sequel was the only one there was. Taking to Twitter, the director answered a fan question about whether Guardians would get a director’s cut. Here’s what Gunn had to say:

“The released version WILL BE the Director’s Cut. No need for a different cut since the studio didn’t make me change anything.”

The director went on to defend his comment on social media when some fans interpreted the response as a shady one towards Warner Bros. Since the last two DC Extended Universe projects did have director’s cuts, some wondered if the decision to hold back on an extended reel was shading the studio; However, Gunn wants fans to know that is not the case at all.

Responding to one tweet, Gunn said, “NO IT IS NOT [an insult]. It was an answer about my movie – the same answer I gave dozens of time when asked about a directors cut for GotG Vol 1.”

Of course, Gunn is not the only director in the superhero realm to nix any plans for an extended cut. Before Logan debuted this month, James Mangold confirmed the final cut fans saw in theaters was the only cut of the film.
