Director James Gunn took to social media to unveil the first look at the black and white poster with only a Marvel Studios logo and “Vol. 2” featuring red coloring.
From left to right, Nebula, Yondu, Gamora, Star-Lord, and Drax seem to have formed a larger bunch of Guardians. At their feet, you’ll notice Rocket Raccoon and Baby Groot are also sticking around for the party. Of course, the poster for the first film said, “You’re welcome,” and Vol. 2 has “Obviously” slapped on it.
A trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was classified earlier this week. Speculation is pointing to Sunday as the expected release date for the trailer, two days ahead of Doctor Strange‘s theatrical release in select markets.
James Gunn returns to the directors chair for the Guardians sequel with Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Bradley Cooper, and Vin Diesel reprising their respective roles. Newcomers to the franchise include Sylvester Stallone, Kurt Russell, and Pom Klementieff.
The first footage for the film was shown at San Diego Comic Con in July. Fans burst out of Hall H in love with Baby Groot as he took charge on a heist with now-friend Yondu. Yondu, by the way, is looking more and more like his comic book counterpart with his red fin reaching more appropriate lengths.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters May 5, 2017.
