The Guardians movies excel at weaving unique musical choices into the narratives and character moments, evident in the original’s opening sequence that has Star-Lord dancing to his Walkman. Music played an equally important role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and director James Gunn celebrated the soundtrack’s latest feat.
“Proud to announce that Awesome Mix soundtrack for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has just gone GOLD with over 500 thousand units sold in the US and over 1 million global album sales,” Gunn said.
Gunn is pretty proud of the film’s musical choices, a selection that the studio tried to experiment with a bit compared to the original.
“The second soundtrack is great,” Gunn told Super Interssante. “I think it’s more diverse soundtrack. I think the first soundtrack [had] a bunch of songs that maybe you heard but didn’t know the name of the song – you didn’t know the name of the singer. In this one, we have some really incredibly famous songs and then some songs that people have never heard. So, it’s a much more diverse soundtrack.”
The original soundtrack has amassed an impressive total as well. In the United States, it has sold over 1 million copies and worldwide has sold 2.5 million copies. It looks like the sequel’s soundtrack is on the right path, and you can find the entire tracklist below.
