Marvel’s Jeph Loeb Fires Back At Inhumans Critics

Despite being a few weeks away from the IMAX debut of Marvel’s The Inhumans, the show is not winning over many fans after the first two trailers.

But with fans and critics questioning the quality of Marvel Television’s latest offering, exec Jeph Loeb begun defending the show at today’s presentation for the Television Critics Association press tour.

“I can tell you that it was written on the material that you were given that the show that you have seen is not the finished product,” Loeb responded to one reporter who asked if the series turned out as hoped. “If you’re asking me whether or not it was done, it’s not. So to be perfectly honest, I don’t understand your question.”

Another reporter also stated before their question that the quality of the episode screened for critics was “not suitable” for IMAX screens, according to Variety.

“I think you’re making an editorial statement, and I’m wondering what the question is,” Loeb replied.

Ouch. For a show that’s set to premiere in gigantic movie theaters in less than a month, it’s not sounding too good.

Showrunner Scott Buck even made light of the quality questions from reporters by comparing his mood to Ben Affleck, who became a meme for his facial expressions in response to a question about poor reviews for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

The old adage says “there’s no such thing as bad press,” but these kinds of responses don’t inspire confidence.

Marvel’s The Inhumans premieres in IMAX theaters September 1, followed by its television debut beginning September 29 on ABC.

After the Royal Family of Inhumans is splintered by a military coup, they barely escape to Hawaii where their surprising interactions with the lush world and humanity around them may prove to not only save them,but Earth itself.

The Inhumans, a race of superhumans with diverse and singularly unique powers, were first introduced in Marvel Comics by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1965. Since that time, they have grown in prominence and become some of the most popular and iconic characters in the Marvel Universe. Marvel’s The Inhumans will explore the never-before-told epic adventure of Black Bolt and the royal family.

Marvel’s Inhumans stars Anson Mount as Black Bolt, Serinda Swan as Medusa,Iwan Rheon as Maximus, Ken Leung as Karnak, Eme Ikwuakor as Gorgon, Isabelle Cornish as Crystal, Mike Moh as Triton, Sonya Balmores as Auran, and EllenWoglom. The show is executive produced by Scott Buck (Dexter, Marvel’s Iron Fist) with Jeph Loeb (Marvel’s Daredevil, Marvel’s Jessica Jones, Marvel’s Luke Cage) and Jim Chory (Marvel’s Daredevil, Marvel’s Jessica Jones, Marvel’s Luke Cage). Buck is serving as showrunner. Roel Reine (Admiral, Black Sails) will direct the first two episodes, which will debut in IMAX theaters. Marvel’s Inhumans is co-produced by Marvel Television and ABC Studios.
