Marvel Studios surprised everyone this year at Comic-Con with one word that carries a lot of weight; Skrulls. As bad as they are, Super Skrulls are even worse.

That’s why it would be an epic battle if Captain Marvel, who will be facing the Skrulls in her upcoming solo film, had to face Super Skrulls down as well. Marvel concept artist Jerad S. Marantz teased as much with the Skrull concept art shown at Comic-Con (via Newsarama).

He shared the images with the caption “Honored to find out this morning that my #skrull designs were shown by the #mcu at #comiccon2017 At first I was afraid that the artwork got leaked and I was a bit panicked, but fortunately it was done on purpose ๐Ÿ™‚ I did these designs while working in house at #marvel on #captainmarvel for the very talented @andyparkart You should all check out his Captain Marvel design. It was also released and is amazing! #marvelcinematicuniverse #marvelmovies #marvel #skrulls #superskrulls #aliens #badguys”

Amidst the flurry of hashtags is one that says Superskrulls, and that is notable for many reasons. The original Super Skrull is known as Kl’rt, who has all of the powers of the Fantastic Four. Now, being that FOX has those rights specifically, it isn’t plausible that he will show up in Captain Marvel.

Aside from specific characters though, Marvel shares the overall rights with FOX, so anything else is pretty open. That means fans could see Captain Marvel throwing down with powerful Skrulls mashed up with other powers. This could even be a slick way to introduce some references to Marvel’s past, with familiar powers showing up without naming names (claws anyone?) The possibilities are open, to say the least.

Larson will headline her own solo film in 2019. Marvel recently brought on directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, responsible for Half Nelson and Mississippi Grind. Now that directors are in place and the lead star is already hitting the ground running, more casting news should soon follow.

Captain Marvel currently has a 3.79 out of 5 on ComicBook.com’s anticipation rankings.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Spider-Man: Homecoming are both in theaters now, and will be followed by Thor: Ragnarok on November 3, 2017. After that Black Panther debuts on February 16, 2018, while Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters on May 4, 2018. Ant-Man and the Wasp is slated for July 6, 2018, followed by Captain Marvel on March 8, 2019.
