The Marvel Universe doesn’t have a clue as to what’s coming, and unbeknownst to them one of their iconic heroes is orchestrating the whole thing. That’s the premise of Secret Empire, which will pit Captain America and his Hydra legion against the heroes he previously called friends.

Marvel artist Mark Brooks has unveiled the gorgeous cover to issue #6 of the series, which features Thor, Scarlet Witch, and the Vision. Brooks showed some of the processes behind his art, and it worked out in multiple ways since he especially loves drawing Thor.

“The latest one features Thor. I just really enjoy Thor’s statue. I mean he’s a classic Viking, like a lumberjack. He’s just this kind of lumbering but also kind of good looking dude, and his costume is a lot of fun to draw because Thor is layered. He’s got like layered cloth and metal and leather and fabric. Obviously, I wanted to make him the center, big and powerful, but I wanted to contrast him with Scarlet Witch and Vision somewhat, so I have Scarlet Witch and Vision very static.”

As for the event itself, Marvel’s Tom Brevoort recently described the feel of Secret Empire, and how the rest of the universe will react to the news that Steve Rogers is in fact Hydra.

“His plans and Hydra’s plans will have begun to unfurl,” Brevoort said. “We are done with the covert portion, the buildup portion of the program, Secret Empire is the pyrotechnics, the big Michael Bay blockbuster, huge colossal struggles and battles across the Marvel Universe, with all of our key characters and players taking on a big role. If you are going into this story not knowing how it’s going to go, yeah you should have some misgiving about [a happy ending], because it’s a really ridiculously awful situation he is in. It might not all be fine.”

Secret Empire is written by Nick Spencer with art by Steve McNiven and covers provided by Mark Brooks. You can view the official description below.
