The brutal, sadistic, and animalistic Sabretooth made his cinematic debut in 20th Century Fox’s very first X-Men film, was a member of Magneto’s evil Brotherhood, and portrayed by six-foot, seven-inch professional wrestler Tyler Mane (a.k.a. Big Sky).
However, when the scary mutant was brought back for 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Mane wasn’t asked to reprise the role. Why not? “That was the producers’ decision,” Mane told The Hollywood Reporter. “The storyline was them rising as brothers, and Liev [Schreiber] and Hugh [Jackman] look a lot closer in that respect, so I understand. I can’t say I wasn’t disappointed. I’d love to get my claws back into that role. But that’s Hollywood.”
In the 2000 film, Sabretooth fought Wolverine in the snow when he tried to kidnap Rogue (though Cyclops and Storm thwarted his plans), and, in the climactic Statue of Liberty scene, he was defeated when Wolverine, Jean Grey, and Cyclops triple-teamed him. So which one is Mane’s favorite fight scene?
“We were already into fight training when I first met Hugh,” he explained. “He jumped right in and we created some very memorable, intense fight scenes. My favorite fight would have to be on the top of the Statue of Liberty. We filmed the snow scene on the coldest day of the year in Canada, and I was too numb to be able to remember most of it!”

X-Men (2000) – Born into a world filled with prejudice are children who possess extraordinary and dangerous powers – the result of unique genetic mutations. Now they must protect those who fear them as the nefarious Magneto (Ian McKellen), who believes humans and mutants can never co-exist, unveils his sinister plan for the future!
The film also stars Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Famke Janssen as Jean Grey, Bruce Davison as Senator Robert Kelly, Rebecca Romijn-Stamos as Mystique, Ray Park as Toad, and Tyler Mane as Sabretooth.
The film was directed by Bryan Singer and written by David Hayter. With a $75 million production budget, 20th Century Fox’s X-Men went on to gross $296.3 million at the worldwide box office.
