Spider-Man: Homecoming earned over $117 million from 4,348 locations in North America in its opening weekend, shattering projections of just $80-90 million for the film’s opening. The movie carries a $175 million production budget.

Those numbers make Spider-Man: Homecoming the second-largest domestic opening for a Sony Pictures film ever. Spider-Man also owns Sony’s number one opening spot, which remains Spider-Man 3‘s $151 million opening in May 2007.

Spider-Man: Homecoming earned $15.4 million from early screenings on Thursday night, which is the third-highest Thursday night preview gross of 2017 behind Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 ($17 million) and Beauty and the Beast ($16.3 million). The film is estimated to have earned $51.5 million by the end of Friday.

Spider-Man: Homecoming is the first Spider-Man movie produced jointly by Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures since both studios reached an agreement to work together on the character’s films. It should be noted that, per the terms of this deal, the box office gross belongs entirely to Sony Pictures.

Holland debuted in the role of Spider-Man in Marvel Studios’ Captain America: Civil War in 2016, where he was recruited by Tony Stark onto Team Iron Man to take on Team Captain America. Robert Downey Jr., the poster boy for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, also appears in Spider-Man: Homecoming as a mentor to the young Peter Parker.

Filming for Spider-Man: Homecoming began in June 2016 at Pinewood Atlanta Studios in Georgia. There were also on location shoots in an Atlanta high school, a hotel, and Atlanta’s West End. Some filming did take place in New York City, where the film wrapped production in October 2016.

Spider-Man 3 and Spider-Man: Homecoming are Sony’s top two grossing films of all time, but what about the other four Spider-Man movies? Keep reading to see how the opening weekend box office grosses for all six Spider-Man movies stack up and be sure to rate each film and choose your favorite.
