In a recent interview with /Film, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige detailed their initial plans for the Ragnarok villain. Along the way, he revealed that they initially wanted the villain’s MCU debut to happen years before, in Thor: The Dark World.
“[The original ideas] always started on this film with Hela.” Feige explained. “We wanted to make Hela the villain. Hela was almost the villain in Thor 2. It didn’t happen for various reasons.”
It isn’t too hard to visualize Hela within The Dark World, with her general aesthetic and vendetta able to fit within the film’s darker tone. Still, fans have already fallen in love with Ragnarok‘s version of the character, and are already speculating about how she could reprise her role. And Feige seems to agree that the decision was for the best.
“And thank God it didn’t, because now we have Cate Blanchett and Taika doing it,” Feige added.
Blanchett’s Ragnarok cast-mates certainly seem to enjoy the decision as well, with Loki actor Tom Hiddleston praising the actress.
“I think she’s going to blow people away, put simply,” Hiddleston told ComicBook.com while on set. “There is something, she, she is a natural and incredibly powerful actor and she’s brought all that power and wit to this part. It’s gonna be cool.”
Thor: Ragnarok debuts in theaters this weekend.
