With the Guardians of the Galaxy and Thor franchises exploring their own corners of the cosmic side, Marvel Studios is steadily carving out their own sci-fi niche in the stars.

But while the Guardians have ventured into the weird and wondrous, Thor and the Asgardians have remained in a space that certainly harkens back to Norse mythology.

Well, not for long.

“A lot of our upcoming movies will be as much up here [in space] as they are on Earth, starting with Thor: Ragnarok.

We already know that Taika Waititi’s installment would combine elements from Planet Hulk, including the planet Sakaar and Jeff Goldblum’s role as The Grandmaster.

During our set visit for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Feige hinted at how much further the God of Thunder would go.

“There are three scenes on Earth in Thor: Ragnarok, Feige revealed. “Everything else is Asgard, and worlds that certainly, in Thor lingo, are beyond the Nine Realms.”

Feige seems to confirm that the characters in the latest film would venture outside of the World Tree, going to places not yet seen in a Marvel Studios film.

“There are planets that we spend a lot of time on in Thor: Ragnarok that certainly people would say, oh, that’s sort of like the Guardians world; they’re just other areas of the Marvel cosmic universe,” he said.

So could we see hints of a Chitauri home planet? Or a world already destroyed by Thanos? Maybe some Universal Inhumans or even the Spaceknights? We’ll know more when Thor: Ragnarok releases later this year.
