Deadpool director Tim Miller is set to helm the sixth Terminator movie, and if fans want to thank Ryan Reynolds for that, he won’t argue.

“Yeah, if you want,” Miller joked when the question was posed to him by The Hollywood Reporter.
In retrospect, Miller seems grateful for having departed Deadpool 2, which opened up his schedule to join Terminator 6.
“I felt like there was more stories to tell there, but I’m happy that somebody else is telling them,” Miller said. “There was a sense of relief in that I get to do something new versus Deadpool 2. I think it would’ve been a great movie, but it was also going to be a continuation of what we had done. This really gave me a chance to do something new.”
“I feel like there was so much more to be done with these characters,” Miller continued. “I mean, I wanted to make Deadpool 2. I was going to do that, until I wasn’t. So, there was that, which took up about seven months of my time. But even then, David [Ellison, who has the rights to the Terminator franchise] and I were talking, like after Deadpool 2, it was going to be this [Terminator].”
Miller reportedly departed Deadpool 2 due to creative differences with Reynolds, who is both the star and producer. Miller was replaced by John Wick director David Leitch. Production on the sequel is currently underway in Vancouver and the film is scheduled to open in theaters on June 1, 2018.
Miller had to lobby long and hard to get the first Deadpool made after the project was shelved by 20th Century Fox following the poor reception for X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Leaked test footage for the movie reignited interest and, when it was finally released in 2016, Deadpool went on to become the X-Men movie franchise’s biggest success yet, grossing $363 million domestic and $783 million worldwide.
