Hugh Jackman officially revealed the first teaser poster for Wolverine 3 – which we now know will be titled Logan. Normally, teaser or announcement posters don’t have all that much substance to analyze, but Wolverine 3 has been a different beast (no pun).

In the poster for Logan, we see Jackman’s familiar buff arm with three Wolverine claws popping out. However, the mystery deepens as we also see a small child’s hand clutching onto Wolverine’s clawed one. Which begs the question: Who is the child on the Logan poster?
X-23
The first and most obvious answer is that the child on that poster is none other than Laura Kinney, aka X-23, aka the new Female Wolverine.
X-23 has been rumored for Wolverine 3 for some time. There are a variety of reasons why introducing Laura Kinney in Logan would be a prudent move on the part of Fox. Those reasons include:
- The character’s continued popularity in Marvel Comics.
- The character trend of diversifying the superhero movie landscape.
- The need to re-cast Wolverine in the X-Men movie universe (without pissing off the fanbase).
- The setup is already there, with X-Men: Apocalypse’s ending button scene showing us that X-Men comics schemer Mr. Sinister is in possession of Wolverine’s DNA; an valuable item he could easily use to clone X-23 (a spin on her comic book origin).
- Safe to say, this is the best and safest bet to make. But it’s not the only one.
Daken
If we’re counting Wolverine’s successors, then Daken must be on the list. The son of Wolverine and Itsu, a Japenese villager, Daken rose to prominence in 2000s Marvel Comics, mixing Wolverine’s powers and savagery with an Eastern flavor, and some fluid sex appeal (it’s actually one of his powers).
If it’s a kid on the Logan poster, then Daken is every bit a possibility as X-23. It would defiinitely be an interesting twist to have the next Wolverine in the X-Men movie universe be a villain, instead of a hero; and having Daken be that replacement could also potentially tie Logan back to Wolverine’s time in Japan during The Wolverine. Nice way to both round out the trilogy, and kickoff something new.
Young Logan
There’s no way to know the gender of the child in the poster, so if it’s not X-23, another guess is that the kid is a clone of Wolverine like X-23, but instead of a female, it’s just a straight up younger version of Logan himself.
That scenario is just as viable if Fox wants an excuse to recast Wolverine with a male actor after Logan; a younger version of the character could be played by any number of young actors (like Kingsman‘s Taron Egerton!) that could pick up the torch.
Old Man Logan’s Kid
Marvel Comics fans who read Mark Millar’s “Old Man Logan” storyline know that a big part of that storyline involved Logan having retired his Wolverine persona and settling down with a wife and some kids. A pivotal part of the story involves Logan’s family being slaughtered by supervillain crime bosses (The Hulk clan), sending Old Man Logan on a berserker rage as The Wolverine again.
Obviously there’s a lot of “Old Man Logan” that would be different as a Fox X-Men movie (not connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe), but Logan having a child is definitely something that could be adapted into the Logan movie.
Which of the choices above would you like to see happen?
