DreamWorks Pictures isn’t taking any breaks when it comes to Transformers. Later this year, the studio will roll out its the last Transformers film under Michael Bay’s direction, and work is already being done on the franchise’s spinoffs. Bumblebee will be the first autobot to get its own standalone film, and new reports suggest that Hailee Steinfeld is in talks to play the film’s lead.

Thanks to Variety, fans have learned that the Oscar nominated actress is being eyed for Bumblebee. Earlier this year, news broke that Travis Knight was brought on to direct the film. There are no details available about the lead role which Steinfeld will play, but the movie is said to focus on Transformers‘ most popular characters.
If you are planning to see the Bumblebee film, then you will need to make sure you catch Transformers: The Last Knight. The two films will not be directly related, but producer Lorenzo de Bonaventure told Collider last year that the upcoming film will had ties to Bumblebee.
“I would say, we definitely spent some time going ‘How does this link up and where are these other things going to go?’” the producer admitted.
“So I think in their initial construction in the writer’s room, and the initial sort of thinking, we spent a lot of time on that, thinking about the interrelationship.” He went on to say, “some of the things will have a very direct relationship. You’ll see some things in here that are laying a pipe. You won’t necessarily know that it’s laying a pipe for another movie, but it’s there. So there’s probably, in a really meaningful way, two or three things in this movie that really have a meaningful aspectโฆand then there’s a bunch of little things. But we’re not making this movie to set up the other movies.”
Fans will know Steinfeld best for her work on True Grit as the actress was nominated for an Academy Award thanks to her performance. The actress has also starred in films like Ender’s Game, Romeo & Juliet, and The Edge of Seventeen. After starring in Pitch Perfect 2, Steinfeld went on to pursue a music career, and her track “Starving” recently chartered in the Top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100.
