The Transformers movie universe is in rapid expansion, following diminishing returns for Transformers: Age of Extinction and this year’s Transformers: The Last Knight. One project that fan are particularly excited for is Bumblebee, a prequel film that will be set in the 1980s, and adapt elements of the “G1 Era” cartoon from the ’80s into live-action.

Today brought a flood of new details about the Bumblebee movie, such as WWE superstar John Cena joining the cast. We also learned that Bumblebee is currently in production, and has a release date of December 21, 2018.

As for plot details, a new press release from Paramount Pictures reveals more about the story for Bumblebee movie, which you can read below:

SYNOPSIS: On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug.
