'Hocus Pocus 2' Sequel Might Be A TV Movie

Over 20 years after its initial release, a sequel to the family-friendly Halloween classic Hocus Pocus might finally be on its way, according to the original film's writer.

Mick Garris recently spoke with Forbes about the cult following the film has developed over the years, even teasing that, while he's not directly involved, a TV special is rumored to be in the works.

"There have been rumors of a Hocus Pocus sequel for the last 10 years that will not die," Garris admitted. "I have heard they are developing the script, I haven't been involved in it but I think there will be a sequel it might be for Disney Channel or Freeform or ABC. I think it will be for television but I hear that it is moving ahead."

The film stars Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy as the Sanderson sisters, witches who were killed for their crimes against children in Salem. Hundreds of years later, the lighting of the Black Flame Candle brought the sisters back to life to carry out their evil deeds in present-day Salem.

Many people choose to celebrate Halloween with a slew of horror films, but over the last two decades, the goofy adventures of Hocus Pocus have grown increasingly popular.

"Now it has become an annual thing at the El Capitan on Hollywood Boulevard and the show is sold out," Garris pointed out. "I went there last year and one of the ushers actually recognized me and gave me a tour of the theater. Generation after generation, it's kind of remarkable and fantastic to have something brought to the screen like that and to have it embraced generation after generation. Everybody I meet, it's either their daughters or their own favorite movie and it's incredibly exciting."

When speaking with PopCulture.com earlier this year, Garris revealed that one of the film's most famous lines, in which a character expresses admiration for a woman's "yabbos," wasn't written by the story's creator.

"I'm afraid I can't take credit for the yabbos," Garris confessed. "I must tell you, every time I see it with an audience, that gets a huge laugh. Even though I'd never heard it before, but they always laugh."
