The Star Wars universe is filled with countless tales waiting to be told. While the Skywalker saga has been the main focus for the franchise since Star Wars: A New Hope debuted in 1977, many supporting characters and new figures from the current canon and Legends continuity are rich with lore ripe for their own cinematic adventures. With these characters—some fan favorites and some lesser known— delving deeper into the past, exploring untold conflicts, or learning about the personal journeys of those who shaped the galaxy would only enrich the franchise.

From legendary heroes to steadfast politicians, these characters could easily carry a feature film on their own and add to the next chapter of Star Wars.
10) Leia Organa

Princess Leia’s story is typically defined by the larger rebellion or the formation of the New Republic. A film focusing purely on her early years growing up on Alderaan as the child of the Queen and an Imperial Senator would be fascinating. Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi gave fans a glimpse at how determined and brave Leia was as a young child; traits that would only become stronger with each year.
A film could explore her adoption, her relationship with Bail and Breha Organa, and her teenage years as a junior senator secretly working for the fledgling Rebellion. Season 2, Episode 12 of Star Wars Rebels— “A Princess on Lothal” — revealed just how clever she was walking the line between Imperial representative and Rebel leader. Witnessing her development into the iconic leader audiences know, facing the Imperial threats on Corusant, and making personal sacrifices would make a powerful character study feature film.
9) Grand Admiral Thrawn

Grand Admiral Thrawn’s strategic genius is legendary in the Legends continuity and in the main canon. Up until this point, Thrawn was primarily featured in animation in Rebels, with his live action debut (and only appearance so far) in Star Wars: Ahsoka. For fans who do not consume the animated content and may have only watched Ahoska, the true depths of Thrawn’s intelligence and shrewdness are unknown.
A feature length film chronicling Thrawn’s rise through the Imperial ranks would be a captivating watch. Such a movie could start with his origins as Mitth’raw’nuruodo from the planet Rentor in Unknown Space, his initial encounters with the Empire, and how he managed to become the Grand Admiral audiences know today.
8) Mon Mothma

Mon Mothma’s journey from Republic senator to Imperial senator to the no-holds-bar leader of the Rebel Alliance is a story brimming with political intrigue and personal sacrifice. Star Wars: Andor gave fans a glimpse of Mothma’s complicated (to say the least) life, with a particular focus on the tail end of her tenure as an Imperial senator. However, there is still so much left to be explored, particularly in the wake of just how detailed and nuance Andor portrayed the character, taking her from a background player to one of the most influential figures in the whole saga.
There are many ways Mothma’s story could be adapted for film, as there is still so much unexplored time. The end of Andor and Star Wars: Rogue One featured Mothma as the Rebel leader stationed on Yavin. A film could continue to follow her story on the Rebel base, showing the complexities of keeping together multiple rebel cells under one leadership. Another era that would be ripe for exploration is directly after the fall of the Empire, as Mon Mothma is elected to be the Chancellor of the New Republic.
7) Bo-Katan Kryze

The fall of Mandalore is a pivotal, yet still unseen, event in Star Wars history. Though the “Night of a Thousand Tears” has been referenced in Star Wars: The Mandalorian as the end of Mandalore as it was known, the only account of the event is through Bo-Katan’s grief and guilt-stricken point of view. A film centered on Bo-Katan during this pivotal battle would fill in major gaps that are missing in Star Wars lore and make Bo-Katan’s despair years later in The Mandalorian even more impactful.
Witnessing the planet’s destruction through her eyes as the leader, her struggle to protect her people, and her impossible decision to hand over the Darksaber to Moff Gideon would be a battle of epic proportions. Now that Bo-Katan and the scattered Mandalorians have reclaimed their planet, a film focusing on the Night of a Thousand Tears would lay the groundwork for rebuilding their society in the current timeline.
6) Ezra Bridger

Ezra Bridger’s post-Rebels journey with Grand Admiral Thrawn into the unknown regions of space is a story that is waiting to be told. With over a decade spent in exile on Peridea, Ezra not only would have had to initially escape Thrawn, but continue to evade him for all that time while surviving in the wild.
This film could pick up immediately after (or in the middle of) their hyperspace jump, detailing their unlikely dynamic and the challenges they face in uncharted territory. It would be a story of survival, growth, and training with the Force in ways we have not seen, as Ezra left his lightsaber behind with Sabine.
5) Kleya Marki

Kleya Marki, from the series Andor, became a standout star for a reason. She is not just Luthen Rael’s most trusted partner, but is a woman who has committed herself to carrying out the ugly tasks that must be done for the Rebellion since she was a child. A film centered on her could expand on her early radicalization with Luthen and show just how the two managed to build such complex and dangerous underground networks she navigated long before Cassian Andor entered her life.
There is also an entire blank slate to fill when it comes to Kleya’s post Andor future. After waking up on Yavin, Kleya stands on the base and looks around in awe of the place she and Luthen risked everything to build. But what happened next? Did she continue as one of the architects of the Rebellion beside Mon Mothma? Or did she feel as though her journey was complete after witnessing the fully operation and successful base on Yavin? Kleya’s character has untold potential and would only enrich the franchise for the better.
4) Avar Kriss

Avar Kriss, the “Hero of Hetzal” from the High Republic era, is a powerful and inspiring Jedi Master whose story would translate beautifully to the big screen for a number of reasons. Her first adventure, as told in Light of the Jedi, centers on her command of the Starlight Beacon and preventing a cataclysmic hyperspace tragedy. The epic space disaster with Kriss in the middle of it all would make a wonderful film. Her heroics are the pinnacle of Jedi philosophy.
What makes Kriss so unique among all the Jedi that came before or after her is her unique ability to see the Force as a harmony known as the Song of the Force, creating a symphony of all living things. This special talent would be visually stunning in live-action, but also a heavy creative task to undertake. The movie corner of the Star Wars universe has not dipped their toes into the High Republic era just yet, but Avar Kriss would be the perfect way to do so.
3) Qimir/The Stranger

The mysterious Qimir, also known as The Stranger, from Star Wars: The Acolyte has nearly unlimited unexplored history. Even after a full season of the series, all that is really known is that he was a former Padawan before he fell to the dark side and trained with Darth Plagueis. This leaves the door wide open to explore his origins training under Venestra Rwoh and show exactly what happened to cause the split between the two that led to Qimir’s fall.
Exploring his motivations, his past struggles, and the secrets he holds would open the door for so much worldbuilding, particularly with Darth Plagueis involved. This would give audiences a deeper understanding of the dark side’s influence during a period that is supposed to be the Golden Age of Jedi and a peaceful one.
2) Padmé Amidala (& Her Handmaidens)

While Padmé played a major role in the prequel films, the true depths of her character are still vastly unexplored. Padmé was the glue that held the Republic senators together; a fact that is not paid enough attention to in the films, but can be found more in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. A film focusing on Padmé Amidala and her handmaidens could be set during her time as Queen of Naboo or as a senator and show that the young women she surrounded herself with were just as brave and dedicated to peace as she was.
This movie could explore a specific crisis or mission where the handmaidens’ talents and training are put on full display next to Padmé. Such a story would offer a refreshing perspective on the hidden strengths and bonds shared between this tight knit group of exceptional women. EK Johnston’s “Queen’s” trilogy focusing around Padmé and her handmaidens is the perfect source material for a potential script.
1) Darth Vader

We all know Darth Vader’s story. We’ve seen it play out through the course of six films. But still, there’s decades worth of untold stories waiting to have their chance to shine. A film adapting elements of Charles Soule’s seminal Darth Vader comic run would be an incredibly dark and important story to tell, as it picks up directly after the events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. This story shows how Vader obtained his kyber crystal to create his iconic Sith lightsaber, the creations of the Inquisitorius, and the real reason behind why Vader built his fortress on Mustafar.
But scattered among the brutality of the recently fallen Jedi and the enforcement of the Emperor’s will is his internal struggle with his past as Anakin Skywalker—a man who loved, and still loves, Padmé deeply. This film would offer an unflinching look at the birth of the galaxy’s most feared villain and the depths of his pain.
