While the trailer has us all very excited for the movie, it also brings up a lot of interesting questions about the film’s characters, plot, and place in the larger X-Men movie universe.

Here are five questions raised by the Deadpool trailer.

Check out when Deadpool and other movies are coming out in ComicBook.com’s Movie Release Schedule.

Is Vanessa Copcat?

We know that Morena Baccarin is playing a character named Vanessa, and that Vanessa is Wade Wilson’s love interest prior to becoming Deadpool. The assumption has been that Vanessa is Vanessa Carlyle, a.k.a. Copycat, a mutant shape shifter from the comics. This was seemingly confirmed when creator Rob Liefeld named Copycat’s first appearance issue as Vanessa’s first appearance.

However, the trailer shows nothing of Venssa’s shapeshifting abilities, and those abilities haven’t been mentioned at all by those involved with the movie. Could they have been left out, perhaps because it made her too similar to Mystique? Or could the origin of her powers has been changed to be involved with Weapon X? Or maybe they’re just being kept as a surprise for an important plot point in the movie.

Will we see more Weapon X Characters?

Deadpool’s origin is linked to the shady Weapon X program. We know that Ed Skrein is playing Ajax, another rather violent product of Weapon X. The trailer seems to indicate that the Weapon X is a well-established organization, so could we possibly see more of these characters appear in the movie? Rob Liefeld did at one point hint that Garrison Kane would be making an appearance.

What is the X-Men’s problem with Deadpool?

In the trailer, we see the X-Man Colossus and his protรฉgรฉ, Negasonic Teenage Warhead, confronting Deadpool. But why? Does Wade Wilson have a connection to the X-Men? Does it involve Wolverine? Why are they getting involved in Deadpool’s business?

How does the Deadpool fit into the X-Men film timeline?

Speaking of X-Men, it’s a bit unclear where exactly Deadpool fits in with the other films. We know that Deadpool is part of the same X-Men film universe, but the time realignment of X-Men: Days of Future Past leaves the team’s status quo as a big unknown. Presumably Deapdool takes place sometime between X-Men: Apocalypse and the flash forward scene from the end of Days of Future Past, but what that means remains unclear.

What brings Deadpool and Weasel together?

The trailer shows us a humorous conversation between Wade Wilson and Weasel, but why are they talking in the first place? Is Weasel one of Deadpool’s targets? An ally? One and then the other? It’s clear they arrive at speaking terms, but what’s gets them there?
