At Cinemacon 2017 in Las Vegas, Walt Disney Pictures revealed its upcoming schedule of releases from 2017 through 2019.

The schedule includes several new films from DIsney’s biggest franchise series and studios. These includes new films from Disney proper, superhero stories from Marvel Studios, cosmic adventures from Lucasfilm’s Star Wars franchise, and animated delights from Pixar.

Beauty and the Beast

Disney’s live action adaptation of the animated classic Beauty and the Beast has been a hit at the box, becoming the biggest film of 2017 so far.

Belle (Emma Watson), a bright, beautiful and independent young woman, is taken prisoner by a beast (Dan Stevens) in its castle. Despite her fears, she befriends the castle’s enchanted staff and learns to look beyond the beast’s hideous exterior, allowing her to recognize the kind heart and soul of the true prince that hides on the inside.

 

Born In China

Born In China is the upcoming ninth nature documentary from Disneynature, opening April 21.

Disneynature, in its ongoing quest to bring the natural world to the big screen as never before, presents its most ambitious project to date, taking moviegoers on a grand journey into the wilds of China. “Born In China” follows the adventures of three animal families — the majestic panda, the savvy golden monkey and the elusive snow leopard.

Featuring stunning imagery, the film navigates the vast terrain—from the frigid mountains to the heart of the bamboo forest—on the wings of a red-crowned crane, showcasing remarkably intimate family moments captured on film for the first time ever.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 sees director James Gunn teaming with the cast of the original to save the galaxy one more time. The film opens May 5.

Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mixtape #2,’ Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.

The film is written and directed by James Gunn and stars an ensemble cast featuring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, Chris Sullivan, Sean Gunn, Sylvester Stallone and Kurt Russell.

 

PIrates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales

The fifth Pirates of the Caribbean movie sees both Johnny Depp’s Jack Sparrow and Orlando Bloom’s Will Turner returning to sea. The film opens May 26.

Thrust into an all-new adventure, a down-on-his-luck Capt. Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) feels the winds of ill-fortune blowing even more strongly when deadly ghost sailors led by his old nemesis, the evil Capt. Salazar (Javier Bardem), escape from the Devil’s Triangle. Jack’s only hope of survival lies in seeking out the legendary Trident of Poseidon, but to find it, he must forge an uneasy alliance with a brilliant and beautiful astronomer and a headstrong young man in the British navy.

The film is directed by Joachim Rønning and stars Johnny Depp, Javier Bardem, Brenton Thwaites, Kaya Scodelario, Kevin McNally, andGeoffrey Rush

Cars 3

Pixar’s animated hit Cars returns for a third outing in a new film opening June 16.

After being trounced in a race by upstart newcomer Jackson Storm (Armie Hammer), everyone begins to wonder if Lighting McQueen (Owen Wilson) should retire. But Lightning isn’t ready to throw in the towel yet, and with the help of another rookie – Cruz Ramirez (Cristela Alonzo) – the old dog is going to learn some new tricks and attempt a comeback in the Florida 500.

Cars 3 is directed by Brian Fee, and features the voices of  Owen Wilson, Cristela Alonzo, Armie Hammer, Larry the Cable Guy, Bonnie Hunt, Cheech Marin, Jenifer Lewis, John Ratzenberger, Lloyd Sherr, Michael Wallis, Paul Dooley, Kerry Washington, Nathan Fillion, and Lea DeLaria.

Thor: Ragnarok

The third Thor movie, Thor: Ragnaork, teams Marvel’s god of thunder with the Hulk from a cosmic road trip. The film opens Nov. 3.

Imprisoned on the other side of the universe, the mighty Thor (Chris Hemsworth) finds himself in a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), his former ally and fellow Avenger. Thor’s quest for survival leads him in a race against time to prevent the all-powerful Hela (Cate Blanchett) from destroying his home world and the Asgardian civilization.

The film is directed by Taika Waititi with a screenplay by Eric Pearson, and stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Cate Blanchett, Idris Elba, Jeff Goldblum, Tessa Thompson, Karl Urban, Mark Ruffalo and Anthony Hopkins.

Coco

The latest creation of Pixar is Coco, an animated film with a musical theme that opens on Nov. 22.

Despite his family’s generations-old ban on music, young Miguel (Anthony Gonzalez) dreams of becoming an accomplished musician like his idol Ernesto de la Cruz (Benjamin Bratt). Desperate to prove his talent, Miguel finds himself in the stunning and colorful Land of the Dead. After meeting a charming trickster named Hector (Gael García Bernal), the two new friends embark on an extraordinary journey to unlock the real story behind Miguel’s family history.

Coco is directed by Lee Unkrich and features the voices of Anthony Gonzalez, Gael García Bernal, Benjamin Bratt, Renée Victor, and Ana Ofelia Murguia.

 

Star Wars: The Last Jedi

The eight episode of the Skywalker saga, Star Wars: The Last Jedi continues the saga of Rey, Finn, and Kylo Ren from Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa from the original Star Wars saga. The film opens Dec. 15.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is directed by Rian Johnson and stars Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, Andy Serkis, Benicio del Toro, Laura Dern, and Kelly Marie Tran.

 

Black Panther

Black Panther sees the Wakandan superhero who debuted in Captain America: Civil War taking the lead to defend his nation of Wakanda and the world from a powerful new threat. Black Panther opens Feb. 16, 2018.

The film is directed by Ryan Coogler from a screenplay by himself and Joe Robert Cole, and stars Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa / Black Panther, alongside Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, and Andy Serkis.

 

Ralph Breaks The Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2

The sequel to the hit video game-themed animated movie sees the titular hero taking his show onto the internet. Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 opens March 9, 2018.

The sequel features the voices of John C. Reilly, Sarah Silverman, Jack McBrayer
Jane Lynch, Jodi Benson, Alan Tudyk, James Corden, and Ana Ortiz, and is directed by Rich Moore and Phil Johnston

A Wrinkle In Time

Ava DuVernay directs an adaptation of Madaleine L’Engle’s classic children’s fantasy story A Wrinkle in Time, which sees a young girl travel through fantastic lands in search of their lost father. The film opens April 6, 2016.

The film stars Storm Reid, Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling, Levi Miller, Deric McCabe, Chris Pine, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Michael Peña, Zach Galifianakis, and Oprah Winfrey.

 

Avengers: Infinity War

Avengers: Infinity War is the epic culmination of everything that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been building towards so far. The film opens May 4, 2018.

The film sees the Avengers teaming with the Guardians of the Galaxy to defend the Earth from the forces of Thanos, who finally comes looking for the Infinity Stones himself.

The film is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, with a screenplay by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely, and stars Robert Downey Jr., Josh Brolin, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Hiddleston, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Olsen, Sebastian Stan, Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Bettany, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Benedict Wong, Zoe Saldana, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, Dave Bautista, Pom Klementieff, Scarlett Johansson, Benicio del Toro, Tom Holland, and Anthony Mackie.

Untitled Han Solo film

The second standalone Star Wars movie will be a prequel centered on a young Han Solo. The film will show Solo during his pre-Rebellion smuggling years, including his first meeting with Lando Calrissian.

The film is being directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller as a kind of “space western” and stars Alden Ehrenreich as Solo, Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Joonas Suotamo.

The film is currently scheduled to open May 25, 2018.

The Incredibles 2

Brad Bird will write and direct The Incredibles 2, the sequel to Pixar’s beloved superhero movie. The film is currently scheduled or release on June 18, 2018. Holly hunter and Samuel L. Jackson have both confirmed that they will reprise their roles from the original.

 

Ant-Man and the Wasp

Ant-Man and the Wasp is the sequel to Marvel Studios’ biggest little movie yet. Paul Rudd will return as Ant-Man, Scott Lang, and Evangeline Lily’s Hope Van Dyne finally gets to co-headline as the Wasp.

Michael Douglass will also return as Hank Pym, as will director Peyton Reed. The film is scheduled to open on Kuly 6, 2018.

 

Mulan

Disney will attempt to continue their successful live-action adaptations of animated classic with Mulan in the fall of 2018. Chris Bender and J.C. Spink are producing through their company Benderspink. The film will not be a musical.

 

Gigantic

Disney’s animated film Gigantic is a loose adaptation of “Jack and the Beanstalk” set in Spain during the Age of Exploration. A man name Jack discovers the world of giants and befriends a young giant girl who treats him as a doll.

Gigantic opens Nov. 21, 2018.

 

Mary Poppins Returns

Mary Poppins Returns is a sequel to the Disney live-action classic musical directed by Rob Marshall and written by David Magee. The film stars Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Meryl Streep, Ben Whishaw, Emily Mortimer, Julie Walters and Colin Firth.

Set 25 years after the original film, and taking inspiration from later books in the Mary Poppins series, the film will see Mary Poppins revisiting the Banks family after they suffer a family tragedy.

The film opens Christmas Day 2018.

 

Captain Marvel

In 2019, Marvel Studios will release its first female-led solo movie in Captain Marvel. Brie Larson will play Carol Danvers, a military woman who gains cosmic superpowers. The film opens March 8, 2018.
