As we approach October, and horror movies enter their most popular time of year, it’s always worth noting which streaming services are adding the most chilling titles to their lineups. While Peacock and Paramount+ were the biggest services for new horror additions this month, HBO Max did bring a couple of wildly popular genre films to its roster, including one of the best and gnarliest sequels from the 1980s.

Evil Dead II, the cult-favorite follow-up to Sam Raimi’s indie horror hit The Evil Dead, is one of the few sequels that many fans agree is actually better than its predecessor. Raimi’s sequel leans deeper into the sillier, gorier aspects of the story, with star Bruce Campbell getting the opportunity to take Ash into real gonzo territory.
The movie that paved the way for the insanity of Army of Darkness was added to the HBO Max streaming lineup on September 1st, where it immediately became one of the streamer’s must-watch horror titles for this year’s Halloween season. It can be a tough watch if you’re squeamish, but it’s also some of the most fun you’ll have watching a horror movie. Evil Dead II is an absolute blast, and it has yet to fail fans upon countless rewatches.
