Insidious: Chapter 4 has been pushed back to 2018.
Universal Pictures and Sony Pictures have elected to push the horror film back from its October 20, 2017 release date and replace it with Half to Death. So, the scares before Halloween weekend might still be in order. Both films come from Jason Blum and his Blumhouse production company, which previously put together films such as The Purge and Get Out.
Half to Death is a film centered around a college student investigating the details around her own murder in an effort to find her killer’s identity. It is described as a dark comedy. Opening on October 20 pits it against Geostorm, a new Gerard Butler action thriller similar to The Day After Tomorrow, The Mountain Between Us which features Katen Winslet and Elba, and Robert DeNiro’s War With Grandpa comedy.
Instead of being packed into such a competitive weekend, Insidious: Chapter 4 will have a release date entirely to itself as the current schedule says. Arriving on January 5, 2018, Insidious: Chapter 4 has no competition aside from the carryover from films such as Star Wars: The Last Jedi which will be three weeks into its run or Pitch Perfect: Chapter 3 which opens later in December.
The fourth installment of the Insidious franchise returns Lin Shaye to the cast, with Leigh Whanell having written the script and Jason Blum, Oren Peli, and James on board to produce. Adam Robitel will direct.
