Peacock Confirms 2025’s Most Controversial Horror Sequel Is Streaming Soon

Peacock is about to add two major movies from 2025 over the next few weeks, giving subscribers the first opportunity to stream them. The live-action How to Train Your Dragon was recently announced for a streaming debut in October. On Friday, Peacock revealed that arguably the most controversial horror title of the year is also coming to the service, though this one is landing a couple weeks ahead of the family-friendly dragons.

M3GAN 2.0 is finally set to make its streaming premiere on Peacock, three months after its initial release in theaters. Peacock announced that the highly anticipated follow-up to M3GAN is set to begin streaming in two weeks, on Friday, September 26th. An unrated version of the film will also be available to stream on the same day.

Why Is M3GAN 2.0 Controversial?

When it comes to horror sequels, one of the most controversial things you can do is completely abandon the biggest elements of the original in favor of something brand new. Even if those are great creative choices, they are typically met with a ton of discourse from fans. Look at Halloween III: Season of the Witch, a movie that was reviled upon release for dropping the Michael Myers story entirely, but has become wildly beloved in the decades since. Halloween Ends, released a couple of years ago, also ditched so much of what people wanted from the franchise, and a lot of fans took issue with it.

M3GAN 2.0 is one of those horror sequels that goes in a completely different direction, feeling more like a comedic entry in some alternate universe Terminator franchise than an eerie follow-up to M3GAN‘s AI cautionary tale. The change to a much more action-heavy film left audiences and critics divided, and the result was a disappointing showing at the box office.

After the first M3GAN was an out-of-nowhere horror hit, raking in more than $181 million at the box office, M3GAN 2.0 fizzled upon its release. The sequel made just over $39 million during its theatrical run. Hopefully its time on Peacock helps it find a bigger audience.

New Horror Movies on Peacock

With Halloween season finally underway, Peacock has already ramping up its horror movie library. September 1st saw the streaming service add a horde of horror titles โ€” more than any rival streamer this month โ€” to bolster its frightening options.

Some of the newly added horror titles on Peacock include The Birds, Child’s Play, Goosebumps, Halloween II, Halloween III: Season of the Witch, Zombieland, Scream 4, The Thing, The Sixth Sense, The Mummy, Psycho, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, and dozens of others.

The horror additions will continue into next month, with Peacock already revealing some of its plans for October 1st. The start of October will see the service add a few Friday the 13th titles, American Psycho, Ghostbusters, The Omen, Leprechaun, The Skeleton Key, Shaun of the Dead, the first three Scream films, and many more.
