All the DC and Marvel Superhero Movies Coming in 2018

The highs and lows of 2017's superhero movies might be behind us, but there's plenty more to come in the new year.

Over the past few years, DC and Marvel properties have both become mainstays in the feature film landscape, and it looks like 2018 will be no exception. Between the two comic book companies, and an array of production companies, fans will get to experience sixteen superhero movies next year, between the live action and animated space.

At the time of this writing, some of the movies do not have release dates - namely the animated films Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors, Batman Ninja, Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay, and Death of Superman. But for now, here's a handy chronological guide to 2018's DC and Marvel superhero movies.

'Scooby-Doo! & Batman: The Brave and the Bold'

First on the list, just nine days into the new year, is Scooby-Doo! & Batman: The Brave and the Bold.

The animated feature film, courtesy of Warner Bros. Animation, will unite DC's Caped Crusader with the Mystery Inc. gang. But as the film's promotional material has hinted, Batman will be bringing a few friends along with him, including Black Canary, The Question, and Aquaman.

While this might not be the most-covered 2018 superhero movie, it's sure to delight fans of both iconic properties, especially those still lamenting the loss of Batman: The Brave and the Bold.

The main voice cast includes Diedrich Bader as Batman, Frank Welker as Scooby-Doo and Fred, Grey Griffin as Daphne and Black Canary, Matthew Lillard as Shaggy, and Kate Micucci as Velma. The guest cast is comprised of Jeff Bennett as Joker, Jeffrey Combs as The Question, John DiMaggio as Aquaman, Nika Futterman as Catwoman, Nicholas Guest as Martian Manhunter, John Michael Higgins as The Riddler, Tom Kenny as Penguin and Plastic Man, Kevin Michael Richardson as Detective Chimp, Tara Strong as Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy, and Fred Tatasciore as Harvey Bullock.

Scooby-Doo! & Batman: The Brave and the Bold will debut on DVD and digital on January 9th, 2018.

'Batman: Gotham by Gaslight'

If that's not enough, Batman fans can get a second animated feature in early 2018.

Batman: Gotham by Gaslight was first announced in July of 2017, and will adapt the fan-favorite 1989 storyline of the same name. The "Elseworlds" story features a steampunk Batman hunting down Jack the Ripper in a turn-of-the-century Gotham City.

Bruce Greenwood (Batman: Under The Red Hood) reprises his role as the voice of the Dark Knight in Batman: Gotham By Gaslight. Jennifer Carpenter (Dexter, Limitless) makes her DC Universe Movies debut as the voice of Selina Kyle. The voice cast also features Scott Patterson (Gilmore Girls, Justice League Unlimited) as James Gordon, Anthony Head (Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Merlin) as Alfred Pennyworth, Yuri Lowenthal (Batman Unlimited, Young Justice) as Harvey Dent, John DiMaggio (Futurama, Adventure Time) as Chief Bullock, William Salyers (Batman vs. Two-Face) as Hugo Strange, and Grey Griffin (DC Super Hero Girls) as Sister Leslie. The cast also includes notable voice actors Tara Strong, Bob Joles, David Forseth, Chris Cox, Lincoln Melcher and Kari Wuhrer.

Batman: Gotham By Gaslight will debut on Digital on January 23rd, 2018, and then be released on DVD and Blu-ray on February 6th, 2018.

'Black Panther'

Next on the list is Marvel's first venture of the year, Black Panther.

The live-action solo film has been anticipated by fans for quite some time, following Chadwick Boseman's casting in the role and his scene-stealing appearance in Captain America: Civil War.

Marvel Studios' Black Panther follows T'Challa who, after the death of his father, the King of Wakanda, returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation to succeed to the throne and take his rightful place as king. But when a powerful old enemy reappears, T'Challa's mettle as king—and Black Panther—is tested when he is drawn into a formidable conflict that puts the fate of Wakanda and the entire world at risk. Faced with treachery and danger, the young king must rally his allies and release the full power of Black Panther to defeat his foes and secure the safety of his people and their way of life.

The film stars Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong'o, Danai Gurira , Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, and Andy Serkis. Additional cast members include Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Florence Kasumba, Sterling K. Brown, and John Kani.

Black Panther is set to be released on February 16th, 2018.

'The New Mutants'

A few months later will be 20th Century Fox's first Marvel film of the year, The New Mutants.

The horror film will follow Magik (Anya Taylor-Joy), Wolfsbane (Maisie Williams), Cannonball (Charlie Heaton), Mirage (Blu Hunt), and Sunspot (Henry Zaga), who are discovering their abilities while being held in a creepy government facility.

The film is set to bring the fan-favorite group to life on the big screen, while providing some unique X-Men teases along the way. And while the franchise's future might be in jeopardy following Disney and Fox's recent deal, the film is reportedly setting the groundwork for a horror-inspired trilogy of films.

The New Mutants will be released on April 13th, 2018.

'Avengers: Infinity War'

Hey, did you hear? A little movie named Avengers: Infinity War will be coming out in 2018.

The blockbuster will unite Marvel's wide array of characters, bringing the Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, and various other heroes under the same roof. Along the way, the ensemble will be tasked with fighting the mad titan Thanos (Josh Brolin), who is determined to reach godhood by acquiring all of the Infinity Stones.

Infinity War has essentially been ten years in the making, and is set to help catapult the MCU into a new direction. It's safe to say that Marvel's fans are anticipating the film, especially after the record-breaking debut of its first trailer.

Avengers: Infinity War will premiere on May 4th, 2018.

'Deadpool 2'

Another highly-anticipated Marvel movie - albeit on a slightly different scale - is Fox's upcoming Deadpool sequel.

The film, which has been called everything from Untitled Deadpool Sequel to Deadpool 2: Second Coming, will see Ryan Reynolds return as Marvel's Merc with a Mouth. Along the way, he will be joined by a cast of returning favorites and new characters, including Cable (Josh Brolin) and Dominio (Zazie Beetz).

At this time, a lot is still unknown about the film's plot, even after a few pieces of promo material have already been released. But hey, you have to admit that seeing Deadpool impersonating Bob Ross in the film's first trailer was a highlight of 2017.

Deadpool 2 will be released on June 1st, 2018.

'Ant-Man and the Wasp'

After the universe-shaking events of Infinity War, Marvel is set to scale things back with it's first "superhero rom-com", Ant-Man and the Wasp.

The sequel will see Scott Lang/Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) and Hope Van Dyne/Wasp (Evangeline Lilly) team up to face off against new threats, all while uncovering secrets of their past.

The film will feature plenty of new additions, including Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet Van Dyne/Wasp, Hannah John-Kamen as The Ghost, Laurence Fishburne as Bill Foster/Goliath, and Walton Goggins as Sonny Burch.

Ant-Man and the Wasp will premiere on July 6th, 2018.

'Teen Titans Go! To the Movies'

After dominating Cartoon Network for four seasons, Teen Titans Go! is headed to the big screen.

Not a lot is currently known about Teen Titans Go! To the Movies, aside from the initial announcement and a teaser poster. The film will reportedly star the series original cast, and include appearances by Kristen Bell and Will Arnett.

Teen Titans Go! To the Movies will be released on July 27th, 2018.

'Venom'

While Marvel Studios and Sony made history (and delighted plenty of fans) with their partnership on Spider-Man: Homecoming, the latter production company is planning to make a cinematic "Spider-Verse" of their own.

The first foray into that will be Venom, which will see Tom Hardy playing the iconic antihero. At this point, a lot is still unknown about the Ruben Fleisher-directed film, aside from the fact that it will reportedly adapt the "Lethal Protector" comic storyline.

Also in the cast are Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Woody Harrelson, Jenny Slate, Reid Scott, and Scott Haze.

Venom is set to debut on October 5th, 2018.

'X-Men: Dark Phoenix'

Even though Fox's X-Men franchise - and the way it will integrate into the MCU - still remains a mystery, that isn't slowing down Fox's X-Men: Dark Phoenix.

Dark Phoenix takes place in 1992, which is 10 years after the events of X-Men: Apocalypse. The team will consist of Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), Beast (Nicholas Hoult), Storm (Alexandra Shipp), Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit-McPhee), and Quicksilver (Evan Peters), with Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) again leading the team. The group finds itself looked upon as heroes for a change, but that is starting to affect Xavier in a negative way. The team is then taken on a space rescue mission, which ultimately turns Jean Grey (Sophie Turner) into the Dark Phoenix.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix will debut on November 2nd, 2018.

'Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse'

Outside of Venom, Sony will be bringing another adventurous film to the big screen with Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

The animated feature will follow Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) coming to terms with his role as Spider-Man - while realizing that he isn't the only one who holds the mantle.

Bob Persichetti and Peter Ramsey will share directing duties on Into the Spider-Verse, with a script by Phil Lord and Chris Miller. The film will star Moore, alongside Mahershala Ali, Brian Tyree Henry, and Liev Schreiber.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse will be released on December 14th, 2018.

'Aquaman'

And finally, DC Films will close out the year with James Wan's live-action Aquaman film.

After delighting fans with his official debut in Justice League, Arthur Curry/Aquaman (Jason Momoa) will be taken on his own sort of solo tale. As of right now, a lot is still unknown about the plot, but a teaser trailer and other information is expected in the coming months.

Joining Momoa in the film will be Amber Heard, Patrick Wilson, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Willem Dafoe, Nicole Kidman, and Michael Beach.

Aquaman is set to be released on December 21st, 2018.
